REPORTS TO:(Position): QSE Supervisor

MAJOR PURPOSE OF POSITION

Develop, Support, and Provide Technical Assistance for Bucyrus Welding and Fabrication Supplier Base. Maintain Corporate Welding Procedures and Standards. Experienced in Quality Systems Auditing, Problem Solving Skills - Six Sigma or DMAIC, 8D or equivalent.

JOB FUNCTIONS

1. Develop welding techniques, procedures and application of welding equipment to resolve problems involving fabrication of metals, utilizing knowledge of production specifications, properties and characteristics of metals and metal alloys and engineering principles.

2. Conducts research and development investigations to develop and test new fabrication processes and procedures; develop new or modify current welding methods, techniques and procedures; discover new patterns of welding phenomena, or correlate and substantiate hypotheses.

3. Prepares technical reports as result of research and development and preventive maintenance.

4. Establishes welding procedures to guide production and welding personnel relating to specification restrictions, material processes, pre- and post-heating requirements which involve use of complex alloys, unusual fabrication methods, welding or critical joints and complex post heating requirements.

5. Directs and coordinates technical personnel in performing inspections to ensure supplier's compliance with established welding procedures, restrictions and standards.

6. Contacts personnel of other agencies, engineering personnel or clients to exchange ideas, information or offer technical advice concerning welding matters.

7. Recommends adoption of new developments and applications to engineering and manufacturing personnel and demonstrates practicability of recommendations.

8. Monitor the quality system to determine overall effectiveness by conducting internal departmental audits and external audits of proposed and active vendors.

9. Must be familiar with PPAP, Problem Solving Techniques, Six Sigma or DMAIC, and 8D. Black Belt a plus.

10. Excellent Verbal and Written Presentation and Report Writing Skills.


11. Ability to Travel domestically and internationally up to 25%.


KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS

Knowledge of manufacturing methods, engineering specifications and the application of Quality Assurance methods to earthmoving/mining or similar equipment is essential. Should be familiar with the application of such equipment, including typical operating conditions.

TYPE AND LENGTH OF EXPERIENCE

Welding Engineering degree (is preferred) or ten years experience in the manufacturing or engineering department of a heavy mining equipment manufacturer is required. Strong background in special welding processes, welding, heat treatments and non-destructive testing is essential. Extensive experience in welding inspections is required. Qualified as a Certified Welding Inspector in accordance with AWS (CWI) requirements preferred. Level II or II non-destructive testing certification is preferred.
