Quality Systems Engineer - E58
DEPARTMENT: Total Quality Management
MAJOR PURPOSE OF POSITION
Support existing and create new quality systems which includes the supporting activities of system definition, procedure development, implementation scheduling, training, system implementation, and internal auditing of same. Develop and administer the Bucyrus International Quality System to ensure that product quality and reliability conform to our standards and meet the demands of our customers.
JOB FUNCTIONS
1. Provide input and recommendations to management on business process and procedural system improvements, including current ISO 9001 requirements.
2. Review trends; track root cause of problems, and coordinate corrective and preventive actions.
3. Facilitate an environment of continual improvement in the quality system by interacting with representatives from all functional groups, encompassing, but not limited to manufacturing, production, purchasing, information technology, and quality management to review organizational procedures and processes, including current ISO 9001 requirements.
4. Promote the use of existing and develop new applications to reduce non-value-added activities in all facets of the business.
5. Provide ERP application support to manufacturing, quality, production, information technology, scheduling and other organizational entities as required.
6. Evaluate and develop improved quality assurance techniques for the control of quality.
7. Monitor the total quality management system to determine overall effectiveness by conducting internal departmental quality audits.
8. Develop and administer support on Total Quality Management related issues such as; inspection techniques, processing procedures, inspection costs versus benefits; etc., with customers, suppliers, engineering, field service, quality control; etc.
9. Review sales inquiries to ensure that the quality requested is definable and attainable, assure that the Company understands the customer's expectations, and determine whether the quality requirements can be satisfied.
10. Records management - Review and consolidate complete inspection records for compliance, completeness, ease of accurate retrieval, and filing. Extract data from completed records to determine the significance of inspection requirements versus reported internal/external failures.
11. Supervise U.S.W.A. inspectors and Gear Lab Technicians as required to complete required quality inspection activities. Supervise the inspection and possibly manufacture of component parts and machines in all areas of the plant, international subsidiaries, and subcontractors as required.
12. Have experience with PPAP, problem solving techniques, Siz Sigma or DMAIC and 8D. Black Belt a plus.
KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS
Knowledge of manufacturing methods, engineering specifications, and the application of quality practices in relation to discrete manufacturing environments. Product knowledge of surface mining or similar equipment is essential. Effective listening skills.
TYPE AND LENGTH OF EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's Degree in related technical discipline and three to five years of manufacturing, engineering, or field service experience or a Master's Degree in related technical discipline and three years of manufacturing, engineering, or field service experience. Additional course work in problem-solving techniques is preferred.
