Position Summary:Reporting to the Plant Manager, the Quality Manager(QM)is responsible for leading our Seattle plant toward our vision of being the preferred choice in our market. This includes building world class quality systems to ensure that process controls exists within the plant such that manufactured products and raw material supplies meet required specifications. The QM is also responsible for investigating product complaints and process problems, and for leading constant cost reduction and quality improvement. This position involves significant involvement in process variation reduction through the use of statistical means and process automation.Essential Duties: •Leadership role in the site World Class Manufacturing program, in alignment with site business plan.•Direct the activities of quality assurance personnel.•Leadership role in the utilization of SPC and leaning manufacturing techniques•Maintain and improve quality control systems and procedures for all products produced at the plant.•Leadership role in the development of Standard Operating Procedures, in cooperation with Production•Identify cost reduction and quality improvement opportunities.•Analyze customer complaints and develop recommendations for corrective action, to assist sales staff at on-site complaints, and to conduct seminars.•Collaborate with the Production Supervisor on quality and process matters.•Provide summary data to Technical Services.•Coordinate process development trials with Technical Services and expedite the sharing of information.•Evaluate new raw material suppliers.•Maintain plant laboratory and associated equipment in safe working order and purchase necessary chemical and technical supplies.•Keep informed regarding industry and government standards and specification.•Develop and implement capital projects that contribute to the overall position objectives.•Assist in implementing process controls to reduce variation throughout the plant•Utilize statistical techniques to diagnose process variation.•Guide plant employees in continuous improvement of quality and process control performanceOther Duties and Responsibilities: •Performs other related duties and responsibilities as directed. Provides positive assistance and/or direction to internal and external customers in alignment with CertainTeed VMVO's.Minimum Knowledge and Skills Required:Chemical or Science degree in engineering, industrial management or equivalent. Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) preferred. Background in quality systems, SPC (statistical process control, 6-Sigma coupled with 5 years of experience in a continuous, TPM focused, manufacturing environment. Familiarity with Microsoft Access database development would be a benefit. The applicant must have good communication skills, solid analytical/problem solving skills, and be comfortable working in a team environment.Preferred or Desired Qualifications:•First aid skills. •Computer proficiency in Word (processing), Excel (spreadsheet) and database preferred.Fiscal Responsibility:Includes writing capital expenditures that relate to process control.Supervisory Responsibility:Directly supervises lab personnel. Indirectly all plant personnel.Working Conditions:Work is in an office and manufacturing environment with exposure to dust, chemicals, temperature changes & noise. Occasional travel as needed, usually via airplanes and rental cars.Physical Demands:Requires wearing personal protection equipment as mandated in areas accessed. Plants vary, requiring considerable walking and may have some access limitations such as stairs, confined areas and rough terrain. Occasional lifting.EOE/M/F/D/V
