Job Description Quality Engineer/Supervisor Primary Function: The Rockwood Quality Engineer will have responsibility for leading, organizing, directing the Quality areas of the Rockwood facility. This leader will lead the group’s efforts on improving internal and vendor quality and support PPI teams to drive for root cause correction. Enhance Customer Allegiance thru direct contact with customers and drive down Cost of Quality in complete value chain from supplier to end user of products and services. Steward and teach scientific approaches including, statistical techniques and Practical Process Improvement methodologies in a “Lean” environment. Measure and improve operational performance on Key Business Metrics for suppliers, and products. Travel as necessary, worldwide, to facilitate product transfers, perform root cause analysis, conduct process audits and too enable Continual Improvement. Perform other duties as Assigned. Job Duties:· Enable collaborative relationships with customers, suppliers and internal departments to prevent quality related wastes. · Direct interface with Customers on internal and external quality concerns. Provide guidance, direction, and leadership to address all RMA’s relating to quality of product or process. · Prepare and review internal & vendor quality reports and data. · Analyze product specifications and manufacturing processes and procedures to determine best practices to meet our or exceed quality and ISO standards. Lead changes to our processes and ISO procedures as required. · Lead continuous improvements (PPI) and root cause corrections to become Best-in-Class. Benchmark internal and external facilities as required. · Development of daily audit and quality tracking reports to measure improvements. · Manage the on-site QA technicians. · Teach Process Improvement Tools and routinely coach use of tools. · Drive supplier quality improvement and measure effectiveness. · Capture internal and external Quality Performance Data and provide linkage to Process Owners to drive improvement. · Conduct formal assessments of internal and external processes. · Provide a continual flow of recommendations to reduce systemic waste. · Serve as a manufacturing liaison during new product development, customer communication, and the RMA process. · Engage in harmonizing, maintaining and enhancing the Rockwood Quality Management System. · Some Domestic and International travel required. · Demonstrate continual self improvement. Job Knowledge: 5 -7 years of Quality, Lean, and Manufacturing Leadership experience. Experience with ISO & TS16949 is strongly desired. Thorough working knowledge of various continual process improvement techniques. Proficient in process auditing and statistical waste reduction techniques. Knowledgeable in data collection, measuring, analysis, improvement and control. Proficient in use of Microsoft Office Suite. Experience: College degree is required and BS is preferred. However, BA and substantial work experience will be given consideration. Experience in Quality Systems is mandatory. Verbal and written communication skills including good persuasion skills are a must. Initiative and Ingenuity: A self starter who can effectively work within a rapid paced lean environment. Comfortable working in a rapid changing environment. Expected to perform independent of constant supervision. Physical Effort: Lifting of 50lbs or more not anticipated. Normal office and manufacturing floor environment.Responsibility for Equipment: Assigned test and measuring equipment.Responsibility for Material or Product: Assigned equipment and parts in the Laboratory, MRB and Incoming Inspection areas.Hazards: Normal manufacturing plant operations. Working environment may require safety shoes and glassesResponsibility for Others: No direct reports.Working Conditions:Travel may be frequent in support of assigned projects and supplier development. Normal office environment with significant time spent on the manufacturing floor. Education: BachelorsJob Level: Experienced
