Quality Engineer; Products and Processes
Nook Industries designs, tests, assembles, and manufactures mechanical and electro-mechanical actuators, assemblies and components, including: Modular Linear Actuators, Ball Screw, Roller Screw, Acme Screw, and Lead Screw Assemblies, Ball Splines, End Bearing Supports, Worm Gear Screw Jacks, Electric Cylinder Actuators, HRC 60 Linear Shafting, Profile Rail Linear Guides, Linear Slides, Bearings and Pillow Blocks. Our corporate headquarters and main manufacturing facility is located in the Cuyahoga Valley of Ohio.
We are looking for an energetic person for the following position:
Position: Quality Engineer
This position reports to the Director of Quality.
General scope of the job:
Investigates and conducts experiments/inspections concerned with physical characteristics, properties, and processing of metals and related special processes in order to direct engineering on material selection, and to optimize Nook manufacturing processes.
Essential duties and responsibilities: Responsible for all gaging applications including calibration review, GR&RResponsible for the establishment, improvement, and reporting of process and product capabilityShared responsibility for PPAP, APQP, and control plan development with QSEParticipates in internal audits as an auditor.Participates in design review (gaging applications, PPAP, etc)Responsible for the analyses of incoming materials relative to metallurgy.Responsible for the analysis and improvement of all special process; internal and external such as: heat treat, painting, plating, welding, oxidizing, passivation, thermal deburring, etc.Participates and supports engineering / manufacturing engineering in the selection of materials to optimize product / process performance.Aids in supplier development as needed (audits/system improvements) relative to special processes (casting, forging,etc)Responsible for the maintenance and control of the Met Lab with respect to retained sample control

Additional Information:
ASM certifications are a plus. Strong mathematical / statistical knowledge, familiar with statistical software packages such as Minitab, Six Sigma Belt Certifications are a plus, Lean knowledge a plus, ASQ C.Q.E. is a plus.
Reasoning Ability:
Qualified candidates should possess the ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. They should also have the ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
Communication Skills: Qualified candidates should possess the ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. They should also have the ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals as well as the ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of employees, managers, vendors, customers, and/or the general public.
