Purchasing Manager - MRO Experience Needed!

Our customers include homeowners, architects, distributors and contractors.  GAF-Elk is growing rapidly and we are searching for outstanding people to join our team.   We are looking for an experience Purchasing Manager for our Dallas, Texas shingle manufacturing plant!  The Purchasing Manager is responsible for managing the daily purchasing activities to ensure that low cost, high quality decisions are made to meet the plant's needs.  You will report to the Plant Manager and work with one Purchasing Agent.  Your experience as a plant maintenance supervisor/manager are highly transferable.  If you've got tangible experience implementing cost savings initiatives in a manufacturing environment we'd like to hear from you!   Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:   Ensure all purchases are made in accordance with company policies and procedures.  Monitor delivery of materials and services to meet the production needs of the plants while ensuring that all purchases made take full advantage of volume requirements.  Prepare and execute, in conjunction with the Legal Department, supply agreements which will fully protect the Company against missed deliveries, shortages and outages, poor material quality, and other performance issues that could affect production.  Establish blanket purchase orders where appropriate.  Work closely with plant personnel to locate and develop new sources of supply and offer lower cost alternatives.  Monitor market conditions to keep abreast of potential changes that could affect costs and/or schedules.  Maintain appropriate documentation and files for all purchases made.  Participate in plant teams to gain an understanding of the needs of the plant.  Develop short and long term purchasing strategies in conjunction with plant strategies.  Develop goals and objectives in line with Corporate Purchasing Goals and Objectives.  Provide weekly feedback to Corporate Purchasing and Plant Management.  Work closely with Corporate Purchasing in the implementation and administration of major raw material purchases. 

Job Requirements:


A Bachelors degree with at least four years of demonstrated experience in make/buy decisions and vendor negotiations in a manufacturing/industrial facility.  Demonstrated customer focus in addition to proven experience leading cost savings initiatives.Demonstrated MRO purchasing experience, strong negotiation skills and experience in a multifunctional team environment.  Demonstrated experience partnering with operations to implement strategies and change without adversely affecting the production needs. Demonstrated experience using PeopleSoft.

Preferred requirements:Bachelors degree in Engineering.
