Purchasing / Inventory Manager

We are an OTR Trailer Manufacturer searching for a highly organized, proactive Purchasing / Inventory Manager to choose suppliers, negotiate prices, and issue contracts and purchase orders that ensure the right amount of product or service is received when it is needed, and acquired cost effectively. 

 

The Manager will also oversee inventory, optimizing and maintaining levels both in house and at suppliers to meet the production needs. 

 

Purchasing Responsibilities: Assume lead role in the Supplier Selection and Assessment process.  Negotiate Supplier contracts, including price negotiation, availability, and terms and warehousing requirements. Develop, measure, report and act on supplier performance metrics. Routinely evaluate and develop alternate supplier sources to ensure the smooth flow of material to support production requirements. Create and maintain Supplier files including contracts. Create and issue accurate and timely Purchase Orders. Follow market conditions, price trends and futures markets to forecast costs and availability of key products.  Recommend purchase strategies to capitalize on opportunities. Communicate between Suppliers and Production on lead times and pricing.

Inventory Responsibilities: Create and maintain Supplier lead time for materials management. Maintain accurate inventory counts. Evaluate usage and develop minimums, maximums and safety levels based on “days out� for all parts. Develop and Manage an Inventory database module (e.g. pricing, minimum purchase levels). Create and maintain BOMs (Bill of Materials). Assign part numbers using current methodology and maintain record system.

 Required Skills and Experience: BA/BS degree required, business preferred.   2 – 4 years proven success in an OTR manufacturing position. Experience in a lean, six-sigma or other quality-focused environment. Strong computer skills—Microsoft Office and Internet skills required. Strong negotiation skills.  Ability to multi-task. Excellent communication skills, both oral and written. Bend and lift products weighing up to 15 pounds continuously, 25 pounds frequently, and 50 pounds on occasion.  Push or pull up to 50 pounds on occasion.
