Project Engineer, Waco TX
Summary:
Reporting to the Plant Manager, Directs and coordinates activities for capital projects including scope of projects, justification, supplier bids, construction and commissioning. Individual will work with various department heads in coordination of capital and improvement projects. Serves as a resource for the maintenance and production departments in developing the Company’s maintenance plan, and works to meet financial objectives and goals. Possesses a strong operational knowledge of all pieces of process equipment, as well as a solid understanding of process theory, supervisory skills and facilitation of essential communication.
Responsibilities:
§ Directs reviews and manages capital projects. Directs preparation of, or prepares drawings and specific type of equipment and materials to be used, in construction and equipment installation. Estimates labor, material, construction, and equipment costs. Reviews equipment needs and modifications with various department heads. Engages and oversees contractors and equipment service technicians. Inspects completed installations for conformance with design and equipment specifications and safety standards. Observes operation of installation for conformance with operational standards.
§ In conjunction with management, maintenance, production, and quality control personnel to resolve reliability issues and recommends measures to improve operations and conditions of machines and equipment.
§ Participation in the development of preventive maintenance program in conjunction with production, EHS, quality and maintenance staff.
§ Reviews and participates in schedule development and execution for annual shutdown.
§ Reviews and participates in developing plant budget.
§ Work closely with purchasing manager to ensure accurate specifications.
§ Provide leadership in monthly material inventory.
§ Act as coordinator for property insurance matters, assist with insurance inspections, take needed remedial actions, and prepare required records and reports.
§ Develops Job Safety Analysis and Environmental Standards into new Capital Projects for conformance with operational, DEC, EPA, MSHA, OSHA and other governmental standards.
§ Oversee plant safety activity.
§ Maintain, effectively operate, and improve the utilities, non-production buildings, roads, grounds, HVAC, and plant security.
§ Manage outside contractor activity – daily activity as well as projects.
§ Ensures the availability of required spare parts related to capital projects. Requisitions tools, equipment, and supplies required for operations.
§ Participates in strategies and implementation of new methods and procedures designed to improve operations, minimize operating costs, and effect greater utilization of labor and materials.
§ Confers with management, engineering, and quality control personnel to resolve maintenance issues and recommend measures to improve operations and conditions of machines and equipment.
§ Provide back up and assistance to Environmental Manager.
§ Serves as a role model in the promotion of safety awareness throughout plant and Company, and promptly addresses safety concerns.
Skills and Qualifications
§ Bachelor's degree (BS) in a related engineering field
§ At least five years related experience and/or training in the cement industry or related heavy
industry
§ At least three of the five years in a supervisory role; or equivalent combination of education and
experience
§ Solid PC skills, including spreadsheets and word processing
§ Commitment to Total Quality
