Job Description Product Manager - Cold Storage Job Summary: The Product Manager has the product line management responsibility to drive worldwide performance for the laboratory refrigeration and freezer portfolio. This is a critical leadership position requiring superior matrix management and strategic planning skills. Essential Job Functions and Accountabilities: Manage product portfolio. Establish and drive the product marketing strategy including positioning, pricing, promotion, and help design the distribution strategy. Identify new products to be developed;manage product life cycles to drive business objectives. Help drive commercial initiatives for sales growth with the current portfolio to achieve AOP goals. Work closely with Commercial Product Managers and Sales Managers to develop local product positioning, pricing and promotion strategy and to ensure execution at geographic/regional level for pipeline growth and sales growth in a highly competitive environment. Manage the collaborations with key R&D, industrial and sourcing partners. Assist with management of product line operations issues. Ensure line quality issues are resolved and provide forecasting input for production planning purposes when necessary. Develop and implement product portfolio plans; including definition of new product features, launch plans and managing products end-of-life process. Conduct market, customer and competitive research, surveys; perform financial analysis and collect internal input to support product portfolio recommendations. Work closely with R&D, Ops team, and external partners for new product development and product manufacturing/quality issues. Ensure the R&D team is fed with the right input at the right time and follow closely the product development projects. Lead and direct teams of R&D, MarCom, Sales and Operations people to develop and release highly-successful new products or line extensions. Develop sales tools including brochures, advertisements, and other materials, working closely with Marketing Communications. Initiate business development activities including identifying acquisition candidates, joint venture/strategic partnerships, etc. Expand sales through new product introductions, sourcing partnerships and other business development activities. Keep broader team informed of relevant product decisions. Develop consensus whenever possible on product decisions to ensure excellent execution of product plans. Build the strategic, corporate and business planning and reporting for the product portfolio Travel up to 40% visiting Thermo sites, customer sites, trade shows and sales meetings. Intercontinental travel of 20% or more. Educational and Experience Qualifications: BS degree required; Biology, Chemistry or Engineering degree preferred; Advanced degree (e.g. MS, PhD, MBA) a plus Demonstrated leadership ability working effectively across functions. Demonstrated ability to operate independently to take initiative and exercise astute business judgment to drive performance.Demonstrated ability to drive results in a project-type, matrix-type, non hierarchical environment, and to motivate colleagues on common objectives. Minimum of 6 years previous Marketing or Sales experience required. A minimum of 3 years Product Management experience or previous roles in Tactical Marketing required. Experience in capital goods industry utilizing both direct and distribution channels preferred. Experience in marketing/sales of commodity capital goods preferred. Life science industry experience a plus. Excellent oral and written communications skills. Strong analytical skills and the ability to draw actionable conclusions.
