Today, CertainTeed is North America's leading brand of exterior and interior building products, including roofing, siding, windows, fence, decking, railing, trim, foundations, pipe, insulation, walls, ceilings and access covers.Position Summary:Reporting to the Manager of Technical Services - Drywall Finishing & Coatings (DFC), the position is primarily responsible for technical support to manufacturing operations and technical sales in addition to continuing progress in development of fundamental scientific knowledge and applied science, consistent with strategic corporate preferred product objectives in continuous development of drywall finishing and coatings technologies and formulation, that will strengthen the growth and profitability of CT Gypsum Division in North America. This position will be open preferably to qualified applicants from any Saint Gobain location in North America. The incumbent must meet visa and work permits requirements.Essential Duties:Part of the Technical Services team, working closely with Central Formulating Chemist and Process Development Engineers of R&D Group, the PRD will support innovative activity and continuous search for scientific explanation of product's behavior; suggesting permanent solutions and developing guidance to plant managers. Developing various compositions and systems on laboratory scale, PRD will assess the feasibility of transfer of such development to pilot scale through prototyping, testing and simulations. PRD will develop and maintain necessary technical database of materials and product applications. Developing strong product knowledge PRD will provide effective support to technical sales staff. Secondarily RDC will support optimization of laboratory analytical processes and maintenance of division's chemical files in R&D technical centers in Canada and USA. Based on industry practice research and analysis, PRD shall provide guideline to the best practice in the industry applicable to CTG standards.Other Duties and Responsibilities:Product Development Support, Research, Product Formulation, Capital Project Support, Process implementation - commissioning, Manufacturing Technical support. Providing of professional expertise to technical aspect of product applications closely interacting with end users. Nature of the product development work requires freedom of experimenting and will to try new ideas.Minimum Knowledge and Skills Required:•Degree in chemistry or chemical engineering, or physical science. •Experience in processing industry will be a plus. •Safety and environment awareness is a must.•Understanding the function of raw materials used in DFC products, capable to apply chemistry to industrial applications and manage projects from laboratory stages to full scale production launch.•Demonstrate knowledge of laboratory analytical equipment and R&D techniques especially in the area of rheology metrology fundamentals.•Possessing Project Co-coordinating skills, capable of working on projects with minimum of supervision.•Able to communicate technical information to manufacturing, sales and effectively responds to end-users' questions and concerns.•Grow to be an early provider of technical leadership in finishing technology area.•Capable to understand to gypsum and other CertainTeed technologies in general. •Strong communication, problem solving, analytical and presentation skills.Preferred or Desired Qualifications:•Preferable a member of paint, coatings & adhesives industries with 5 years experience in product development or product manufacturing.Supervisory Responsibility:Expected to work independently on the development of projects plans and work tasks. Working Conditions:Multiple demands, Fluctuating work loads. Laboratory and pilot operation environment combined with frequent visits to manufacturing facilities and construction sites. Wearing work boots and PPD, long standing observing the manufacturing process and assisting in construction sites and factory environment. Overnight travel involves trips to US and Canadian locations. Valid passport required.Physical Demands:Must be capable of wearing Personal Protective Equipment necessary to comply with government and company safety standards, whenever engineered methods of reducing hazards or physical requirements cannot be reasonably accommodated. Job includes tasks that require bending, lifting materials weighing up to 100 lbs., twisting, gripping, and stair climbing.
