Under the supervision of the Plant Manager, at our Hagerstown, Maryland Facility, the incumbent is accountable for managing and ensuring the efficient operation of the blending, extrusion, and the grinding areas of operation. The incumbent is accountable for determining and implementing the most cost-effective means of producing product while meeting the quality, safety, and delivery requirements. The incumbent manages the operations of the plant in the absence of the Plant Manager. The incumbent works under the parameters as defined by Corporate and government policies and procedures, but must effectively implement change while positively influencing the overall culture of the plant. The incumbent must make decisions that have great impact on the daily operations of the plant, and must communicate decisions to the Plant Manager. The incumbent must direct and motivate a large staff to ensure the most efficient operating system is in place.The incumbent must have strong managerial skills to motivate and direct a large group of employees. The incumbent must have the ability to direct a continuous operation. The incumbent must possess a working knowledge of the Lean Manufacturing Philosophy and the perpetual inventory system. The incumbent must possess an engineering background, with advanced business knowledge in budget preparation and management, and general management theories. This knowledge and skill would typically be obtained through formal education such as an MBA or business management, and a working knowledge of management in the manufacturing industry. The incumbent must also have a strong working knowledge of the extrusion process, particularly vinyl, and be familiar with the vinyl product line. The incumbent must be able to implement new ideas into an operation. The incumbent must be able to prioritize and deal with many tasks. The incumbent must also have excellent communication skills to deal tactfully with a complex organization. Travel is required to fulfill the duties of this position.
Qualifications:
GENERAL FUNCTION OF JOBUnder the supervision of the Plant Manager, incumbent is accountable for managing and ensuring the efficient operation of the blending, Siding & Windows extrusion, grinding and process engineering. The incumbent is accountable for determining and implementing the most cost-effective means of producing product while meeting the safety, quality, and delivery requirements. The incumbent manages the operations of the plant in the absence of the Plant Manager. Support a safe working environment in area of responsibility at all times. Correct or report unsafe acts or conditions through appropriate channels of resolution.DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES OF JOB 40% Oversee the Siding Supervisors, responsible for the extrusion, grinding and repack departments. 20% Oversee Process Engineering and Blending Department Supervisors, responsible for their respective departments. 10% Participate with Plant management to lead safety programs, define culture, promote labor relations, improve communication systems and policies, and support the overall growth and direction of the Hagerstown Plant.10% Assign projects to subordinates, guide, monitor and evaluate results.10% Promote continuous improvement via benchmarking plant operations, collaborating with other plant superintendents to maximize safety, quality and process standards.10% Recommend selection and deployment of subordinates, eliminate production waste and reduce variability, participate in the selection of vendors and monitor quality. MAGNITUDE OF JOB1. Meet or exceed Plant Safety Objectives.2. Meet or exceed Plant Yearly KOI objectives set by the Plant Manager and the Corporate Groups.3. Meet or exceed Plant Goals to include Quality, Customer service and Cost.PROBLEM SOLVING REQUIRED1. Address issues and concerns of the employees while being respectful to the Union Contract, CertainTeed Corp. and Saint-Gobain guidelines and policies.2. Manage and Observe problem solving via utilizing Teaming Efforts (developed by Steering Committee) and small project teams.3. Direct, Assist and Involve teams in using PIQ tools and/or Root Cause analysis approach to reduce or eliminate problems.4. Utilize PIQ tools, Root Cause Analysis, Six-hats theory to build a strong Operations team to eliminate problems and potential issues.KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED The incumbent must have strong managerial skills to motivate and direct a large group of employees.
