Summary:

Johns Manville is currently seeking qualified applicants for the position of Plant Environmental Specialist to be located in our Cleburne, Texas facility. The Plant Environmental Specialist develops, implements, and maintains site/plant safety, health and environmental programs; assures compliance with the company’s Health Safety & Environmental standards and existing federal, state and local environmental regulations.

 

Responsibilities:

• Provides accurate, cost-effective and timely technical and regulatory compliance support to plant.

• Provides regulatory interpretation and technical advice; represent the company with state and federal agencies as required.

• Establishes and maintains program to ensure that operating permits are in order for all sources of air emissions.

• Ensures our communities and employees are aware of the potential hazards created by plant operations.

• Identify opportunities to simplify and increase air permit compliance through data acquisition systems

• Maintains current knowledge of specific requirements imposed by government agencies, qualifies all personnel involved in water sampling and testing, maintains environmental abatement equipment, emergency procedures and handling of hazardous materials and wastes.

• Ensures that all industrial wastewaters discharged from the plant will not violate the limits of the plant operating discharge permit.

• Ensures process and wastewaters are properly managed to protect ground waters and surface tributaries from contamination.

• Ensures the proper disposal of hazardous wastes and lead a plant-wide effort to eliminate solid waste by reducing process wastes, reusing, and recycling various materials.

• Coordinates site/plant-wide environmental audits and analyze results, complete action items.

• Establishes and implements plant-wide communications pertaining to environmental compliance to ensure employees are aware of potential hazards and unsafe conditions.

• Develops and conducts employee training Emergency preparedness.

• Develops reviews and revises written regulatory compliance programs.

• Monitors and prevents chemical, physical and biological hazards and diseases that could be present in the work area.

 

Qualifications:

• BS/BA degree or equivalent experience in Engineering, Environmental Engineering or related fields

• Minimum of 3 – 5 years experience in an environmental role

• Experience in Lean, Six Sigma or similar continuous process improvement methodology.

• Working knowledge of federal, state and environmental laws and regulations relating to air, water, solid waste and hazardous waste management.

• Experience in an environmental role with an emphasis in air compliance

• Experience in hazard awareness and risk assessment for flammable and hazardous materials.

• Solid leadership, management, motivational, supervisory and administrative skills.

• Solid interpersonal, verbal and written communications skills.

• Analytical ability to determine and develop solutions to moderately complex problems.

• Demonstrated root-cause analysis skills.

• Demonstrated effective training techniques and skills.

• Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.

• Computer proficiency in software applications required for analyzing, monitoring, reporting and presentations.
