Albany/Poughkeepsie, NY 12809 Job Category: Engineering Total Work Experience: 2+ to 5 Years Job Description SUMMARY OF POSITION:This individual is responsible for supporting Continuous Improvement efforts at the Argyle facility through active participation in all phases of Lean, Critical to Quality (CTQ), Six-Sigma and QIP activities, including planning, organizing, implementation/roll out, progress tracking and status reporting. Will assist or lead in organizing and coordinating improvement efforts and activities, and documenting efforts. Additional work in training and mentoring plant personnel in Lean Manufacturing/CTQ will be required.Covidien considers the safety of all employees to be of the highest priority. This along with the Quality System Regulations and the Quality System Standards provides the “basic” requirements for the design and production of medical devices. Every employee is expected to understand and comply with Covidien’s Guide to Business Conduct as well as those policies, practices and regulations that affect his or her job, and to report any violation. Understanding the Guide to Business Conduct will create a culture of integrity that is an integral part of the way we do business.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:1. Assist in identifying Continuous Improvement opportunities and prioritizing activities based on business need.2. Perform value stream exercises for site processes. 3. Assist in developing training materials (SPC, Lean, CTQ, etc) and delivering training to cross functional groups. 4. Participate in and support plant Continuous Improvement project planning, execution, and follow-up.5. Support Continuous Improvement efforts including but not limited to Lean/CTQ events, 6-Sigma projects, and QIP. 6. Support the rollout of long term improvement efforts, such as SPC, OEE tracking, and Visual Workplace. 7. Address documentation changes and training required as a result of process changes. 8. Maintain system for reporting status of Operational Excellence / cost savings projects.9. Mentor OpEx candidates toward goal of achieving certification.10. Supports the Operational Excellence Leader in communicating OpEx topics to the plant personnel.11. Investigate/implement best practices from other facilities. DEPARTMENT SPECIFIC/NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:Other duties as assigned with or without accommodation.Requirements: MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:Education: Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Engineering, Science, Mathematics, or related field.Experience: Practical Lean Manufacturing experience and/or training with a minimum of 2 years of plant manufacturing, supervisory, and/or quality experience, including a demonstrated ability to lead or manage continuous improvement efforts. Preferred Skills/Qualifications: Lean/ Six-Sigma trained. Certification a plus. Project management, problem solving, team building and negotiation skills. Excellent communication (oral, written, and listening), facilitation, and presentation skills. Ability to prioritize and manage multiple improvement efforts.Skills/Competencies: Computer knowledge and skills. Individual must be self-motivated, able to achieve results with minimal supervision, and have the ability to identify continuous improvement opportunities and implement solutions.Other Skills: Understanding of impact of Operational Excellence efforts on all functional departments (i.e. Operations, Quality, Planning, Finance, etc) ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS/SCOPE:1. Reporting to Operational Excellence Leader, this position interacts with individuals from various roles in the plant during the course of implementing continuous improvement efforts, as required. 2. Duties require ability to work independently, making sound decisions based on company policies, SOPs, and cGMPs.3. Interaction with other facilities and Corporate Operational Excellence department required. WORKING CONDITIONS:While performing some duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands and fingers to perform routine office tasks, manufacturing product assemblies and process troubleshooting. At times, the employee must lift and/or move up to 30 lbs. During routine job tasks, the employee may be required to climb or move in awkward positions.Will be required to work in a controlled environment that requires hairnets, beard covers, safety glasses, smocks, etc., and includes restrictions regarding the wearing of makeup and jewelry. May have direct and indirect exposure to levels of solvents and solvent odors that do not require personal protective equipment other than safety glasses.
