Occupational Health Nurse

POSITION SPECIFICATION

 

Summary:

 

United States Steel Corporation has an immediate opening for an Occupational Health Nurse in the Human Resources department.  The Occupational Health Nurse will be responsible for supporting the company’s health, wellness and safety objectives through the coordination of health screenings, first aid, drug screenings, wellness, work injury, and return to work services.

 

Major Responsibilities:

 

·  Performs physical exam screening to include vital signs, vision, audio, pulmonary, EKG, and drug screening.

·  Assists other nurses with day-to-day HDQ clinic tasks such as administration of injections and immunizations, as well as phone advice calls and client counseling.

·  Treatment of minor injuries of all types to include cleaning and dressing injury, removing foreign substance from eyes, applying resuscitation and other emergency treatment before regular medical or surgical care can be given.

·  Cleans and sterilizes equipment, prepares bandages or dressing, prepares anesthetics and other solutions.

·  Assists in minor suturing when required.

·  Calls ambulance when required, and sends injured to general hospital for diagnosis or further treatment when the extent or nature of the injury requires such.

·  Prepares case records showing cause, extent of injury, along with other pertinent information, assigning case number to each case.

·  Forwards above information to appropriate department(s) and schedules return visit with the injured patient.

·  Clinical and organizational tasks for special programs including annual influenza campaign and health fair/wellness promotions.

·  Assist with travel medicine program.

·  Perform inventory and orders supplies as needed.

 

Job Requirements:


Candidate SpecificationMinimum Requirements: ·  Associate’s degree ·  5+ years of nursing experience of which the candidate has performed 1-2 years of work in the occupational medicine field.  ·  Currently licensed to practice registered nursing in the state of Pennsylvania. ·  Must be able to work effectively and collaboratively in a team environment and across multiple  organizations, both internally and externally. ·  Must have strong communication skills, problem solving skills, computer skills, communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to deliver group presentations. ·  Be flexible and willing to work designated hours and travel for meetings and training programs, as required. Preferred Requirements: ·  BSN preferred ·  Certification of Occupational Health Nursing (COHN) ·  Prior case management experience ·  ER, critical care, ambulatory care, and/or physician office experience preferred
