Mold Engineering Manager

We currently have an opening for a Mold Engineering Manager

 

Summary:

The Mold Engineering Manager position is responsible for overseeing all injection mold designs and fabrication, and production mold-engineering support.  Responsibilities include, providing Kinetics’ applications/sales engineering organization with injection mold pricing and delivery details for formal customer quotes, supporting component design efforts with customers, overseeing the design and fabrication of new molds, supporting production mold-engineering on first shots on new molds, major mold maintenance efforts/issues, and communicating weekly schedule updates on all new molds.  This position works in a cross functional department that is responsible for generating new business by communicating technical information internally and externally, evaluating potential product applications, assisting customers with design for manufacturability efforts, and processing customer quote requests. 

 

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

 Process requests for quotation (RFQ’s).  Provide production mold and end-of-arm tooling quotations including, cost and lead-time.  Assist Applications Engineering in evaluating customer components to determine if they fit the MIM process.  Provide design input to improve the manufacturability of candidate MIM parts by generating CAD drawings and solid models as necessary to communicate the design requirements of MIM.  Participate in customer meetings as necessary.

 Generate mold designs, concepts and/or layouts.  Make use of analytical tool as necessary to ensure new molds meet targeted performance requirements with selected feedstocks.  Specify target molding conditions for first shots on all new molds.  Oversee outsourced mold designs when applicable.

 Specify and procure all new molds.  Communicate weekly mold-build schedule updates to Applications Engineering and Product Engineering.  Responsibilities also include, vendor management, qualifying new vendors, and a focus on ongoing mold cost and lead time reduction/competitiveness. This includes travel as necessary to manage mold vendors and develop and qualify new mold vendors in the U.S. and offshore.

 Provide production mold-engineering support on the manufacturing floor.  Assist problem identification and corrective action requirements regarding mold performance and major maintenance requirements.  Provide coaching/counsel to production mold-engineering to help advance their capabilities and effectiveness.

 

Experience and Qualifications:

 

RequiredBS Mechanical Engineering or Various Degrees in Polymer Science and Injection Molding.Must have injection mold design and fabrication experience.High degree of mechanical aptitude is a must.Requires the ability to read engineering drawings and geometric dimensioning & tolerancing (GDT).Requires and advanced understanding of CAD design software with and ability to create 2-D lined drawings and solid models.Must have demonstrated project management experience. Must have excellent verbal and written technical communication skills.

Preferred: Thorough knowledge of Pro-Engineer Wildfire Successfully completed a mold making apprenticeship>10 years of mold design and fabrication experience including, molds using hot runner systems, direct gating, slides, threads, unscrewing and collapsible cores.
