Metals Buyer

Aleris is seeking a Metals Buyer to join the Metals team at our Corporate Offices in Beachwood, OH.

Headquartered in Beachwood, Ohio, a suburb of Cleveland, is a dynamic company operates 48 production facilities throughout the world, and employs approximately 8,800 employees.

 

This position will work with the Director of Metals Purchasing to maximize the purchase of low cost scrap material for our production facilities.

 

Responsibilities Include:

 Purchase planned aluminum scrap metal requirementsMaintain constant contact with suppliers /customers through outside and inside sales calls and on-site visits.Manage supplier performance by maintaining regular contact with suppliers and plant operations to ensure accurate and timely metal flows in order to achieve production requirements.Review and report monthly statistics regarding supplier performance against purchase order specifications.Develop new raw material sources through increased dealer supply base through first and second link supply chain opportunities.  Execute purchase plan within specified limitations through dealer transactions.Minimize exposure to risk of loss by structuring all purchases consistent with approved policies and procedures.  Advise risk analysis of all purchases.Provide employee development to new buyers through coaching and training.Travel to visit current and prospective accounts.Represent the company at various industry meetings and functions.

 

Knowledge and Skill Requirements

· Bachelor’s degree in a business-related field or equivalent work experience is required along with a minimum of 2 years experience in the aluminum scrap market. 

· Must have strong demonstrated analytical and math skills.

· Interpersonal skills are required as this position interacts with both internal and external customers.

· Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.

· Proficiency with multiple PC applications including Microsoft Word, Excel and Access.

· Must be able to work independently, be self-motivated and disciplined

· Ability to critically analyze information and interpret to meet the needs of the organization.  Aleris is a very data driven organization and this position will be required to analyze and report data in a variety of methods and to various audiences.

· Must be able to learn quickly and work in fast-paced environment. 

· Must be able to read and interpret technical documents and be able to write routine reports and correspondence.
