Materials/Procurement Supervisor

The Procurement/Materials Supervisor, to a large extent, determines the inventory level at the plant by planning material and capacity requirements for all products. The incumbent keeps the schedule valid through investigations on the shop floor activity. The incumbent translates the production plan (forecasted rates by planning families, plus or minus, inventory adjustments) into specific finished goods times that can be used to plan materials and capacity requirements.   Responsible for coordinating the negotiation and purchase of maintenance, repair and operating supplies, machinery and equipment, services and packaging supplies, in a timely manner at optimum costs, acceptable quality and quantity specifications on a timely basis. Provide training and direction to less experienced Buyers   Job Requirements: 1. Prepare the plant schedule assuring balance between incoming sales and plant capacity. 2. Communicate with Customer Service on issues such as expedites and rescheduling. 3. Establish and maintain a production schedule to facilitate planning material and capacity requirements for machinery, tools and manpower.  4. Assess the impact of “top down” (external) inputs, such as a request for the introduction of a new product in much less than normal delivery time, that may affect capacity or inventory levels to maintain balanced inventory and assure good customer relations. 5. Address the impact of “bottom up” (internal) inputs. “Anticipate delay reports” from the shop or Purchasing, indicating what particular components will not be available as scheduled or that planned production rates are not being attained, that may affect capacity or inventory levels to maintain balanced inventory and assure good customer relations. 6. Ensure that production plans correlate with shipping budget inventory plans and marketing plans. 7. Show responsibility for service levels and inventory value corresponding to Division goals for each ABC Class. 8. Acts as plant representative working with division strategic sourcing leader to ensure achievement of sourcing goals. 9. Anticipate the phasing out of discontinued products, the phasing in or new products to minimize obsolescing inventory, and maintain good customer relations by scheduling the introduction of new products at the agreed upon time, and have inventory available for scheduled promotions. 10. Analyze and prepare reports on inventory levels and usage; recommends future inventory policies.  11. Coordinates the purchasing and negotiating efforts of Associate Buyer rresponsible for coordinating the negotiation and purchase of maintenance, repair and operating supplies, machinery and equipment, services and packaging supplies, in a timely manner at optimum costs, acceptable quality and quantity specifications on a timely basis. Provide training and direction to less experienced Buyers. 12. Ensures all negotiated contracts are advantageous to Cooper and meet the Company’s established goals. 13. Reviews the facility’s demand and ordering pattern to ensure a balanced supply of materials and components while meeting inventory and inventory turn goals. 14. Maintains vendor relations and resolves issues as required.  15. Generate and maintain current and accurate purchasing records and documentation to facilitate future decision-making and contributes to an accurate accounting inventory valuation. 16. Personally abides by and enforces ethical practices in all dealings with company suppliers and maintains good working relationships with other departments and personnel, outside suppliers and associates in the purchasing and materials field. 17. Identify and implement cost savings projects and e-auctions to obtain company cost savings goals. 18. Perform other related duties as assigned.
