View location information to learn more about the area. One of the benefits of working at John Deere is our comprehensive career development program.  Our employees' internal resumes are accessible on-line by managers and human resources, allowing them to match employee interests with company needs—in short, getting the right people in the right jobs, at the right time. John Deere Construction and Forestry is seeking a Materials Engineer to provide chemical engineering support for the Dubuque Works facility and the C & F division.  In this position, you will:  Apply paint process and application expertise to assure quality results from two large, captive wet-on-wet paint systems as well as other smaller spray systems. Support the design engineering community, the supply management community, and quality organizations with coating expertise. Support safety and environmental engineering efforts in the operation of the facility. Provide expertise that selects and controls the machining fluids used within the facility. Integrate corrosion prevention knowledge to the shop floor and shipping operations. Support other chemical engineering processes in a back-up role.  These processes may include part cleanliness, oil properties, oil compatibility, RO process water generation, adhesives and elastomer properties, plating, and fluids such as fuel and anti-freeze. Travel on an infrequent basis. Education This position requires a degree in an engineering or technology field or equivalent experience. A four-year Chemical Engineering degree is highly preferred.Required Skills and Experience  This position requires competencies in areas of chemical materials and processes including but not limited to paint pretreatment process control, paint material properties, two component paint material delivery systems, emission understanding, waste stream control, and specification attribute testing. Ability to manage intermediately complex projects without need of supervisory intervention. Ability to interpret engineering drawings and material specifications. Intermediate to advanced understanding of desktop software tools. Demonstrated effective written and verbal communication skills. Demonstrated experience working in a shop floor environment. Ability to lead in a team environment.Desired Skills and Experience  Developed and demonstrated understanding of materials and their properties as it relates to their use in design and manufacture. Developed and demonstrated understanding of material evaluation techniques and the ability to conduct appropriate testing. Demonstrated ability to interpret data to develop value-added conclusions and recommendations. Ability to integrate business acumen into Materials Engineering decision making. Machining coolant experience. Decal application and adhesives background. Plating experience. Corrosion prevention expertise. Other chemical engineering experience.This position will be posted for a minimum of 7 business days and unposted when a qualified pool of candidates is achieved.
