Manager, Business Development

The Manager, Business Development is responsible for steering business development of the strategic plan for the company.  The Manager works closely with the Director of Business Development, the company President, and staff to facilitate cross functional engagement, development and on-going evolution of the strategic plan.  This position facilitates meetings with senior management team to translate the strategic plans into annual operating priorities and budgets.  The Manager works closely with the VP’s and President to proactively identify new business development opportunities, monitor trends, identify key risks, and recommend strategic initiatives to meet corporate goals. The position is responsible for all aspects of business development activities.  Initially, this consists of directing the strategic, operational and financial assessments of opportunities that are identified or arise to determine if they have merit, and then involving senior members of the executive team, if warranted, to conduct more comprehensive review and assessment.   General Summary 1.  Strategic Projects and New Product Development - Lead special projects that support the company in addressing various strategic challenges- Develop project scope, timeline and required business case analysis, including financial modeling (metrics such as NPV, Internal Rate of Return, Free Cash Flow, Cost of Capital), market sizing and segmentation, etc. - Execute strategic project and track financial impact- Determine project outcome and long-term recommendations- Communicate project results and recommendations to senior leadership 2.  Strategic Planning- Facilitate the strategic planning process in accordance with the company’s procedures and timelines.- Perform practical, action oriented and comprehensive data analysis in support of strategic plans and key initiatives- Develop compelling presentations to communicate the strategy internally and externally- Direct, execute and test business development opportunities (Strategic Projects) that align with strategic objectives by building financial models and testing scenarios- Conduct industry, competitive and internal analysis to support business development opportunity (Strategic Projects)- Define project scope, business case and work plan3. Internal Consulting·  Direct resources to high priority strategic initiatives within the organization·  Discuss projects with executive management to insure proper sponsorship of resources·  Determine appropriate structured approach for analyzing initiatives and projects·  Oversee development of presentations to executive management Principal Challenges SchedulingDetermine what business opportunities are important to prioritize and the timeframe. Strategic PlanningFacilitate development of the 5-year strategic plan and operating priorities for the company.  This involves identifying key initiatives, new markets, products and opportunities.  The strategic plans and operating priorities need to be approved by the Corporate Management Team. Business DevelopmentContinue to identify opportunities to enlarge the existing businesses or diversification implement agreed. Special ProjectsAll Business Development opportunities and Strategic Projects are considered special projects.  This type of project involves various internal analysis, market research, competitive assessment and/or market assessment to understand the overall opportunity and make recommendation.  Position Requirements: Undergraduate degree in Engineering or FinanceTwo to four years of work experience in engineering or financeMBA This position offers a competitive compensation, benefit, and relocation package.
