Manager, Benefits Analysis

Position Specification  U. S. Steel has an immediate management opening for a  challenging position as Manager, Benefits Analysis in the U. S. Steel & Carnegie Pension Fund (“UCF”) located in Pittsburgh, PA.  UCF administers the various benefit plans offered through U. S. Steel and its subsidiaries for all active employees, retirees  and beneficiaries.  The position involves actuarial and analytical work in accounting for all employee benefit plans of United States Steel Corporation worldwide.  Responsibilities include: Directing and training a staff of management analysts and having hands-on knowledge for all actuarial and accounting calculations performed by them. Developing accounting and funding requirements for more than 20 qualified and non-qualified benefit plans covering more than $14 billion in liabilities on pensions, OPEB, jubilees, compensated absences, workers compensation, black lung and various other smaller plans  Developing  segment and subsidiary/unit breakdowns of Corporate expense under benefit plans Developing annual long-term studies and evaluations of the funding and cost implications of the qualified pension, VEBA OPEB, and retiree insurance plans, requiring set-up and evaluation of stochastic and deterministic valuations Developing required U. S. Steel annual report footnotes related to benefits Providing actuarial support and cost evaluations of  benefit proposals relating to M&A activities and labor negotiations, and Providing consulting advice and review of  benefit or employee matters as requested. 



Minimum Qualifications:

  Bachelor’s Degree in Math, Actuarial Science, Accounting, Management Information Systems, or Finance. 10 years experience in benefit consulting type work  for the actuarial, analytical and statistical development of various pension, OPEB, workers compensation, Black Lung, and other accrued benefits plans, including five years performing detailed actuarial valuations for either pensions or OPEB. Strong analytical, communication, and computer skills. Ability to work independently.

Additional Preferred Qualifications: Experience with union and non-union environments. FSA certification by Society of Actuaries (not needed if  length of experience has developed the expertise in the benefit areas noted above).
