Maintenance Planner

ArcelorMittal USA, the larger steel producer in the US, is seeking Maintenance Planners for it Indiana Harbor Mill.  Indiana Harbor is located in East Chicago Indiana approximately 25 miles from the Chicago Loop.

The Maintenance Planner has a key role in the success of the Maintenance program.  The position has both supervisory and administrative responsibilities.  The Planner reports to the Maintenance Manager.  The Area Planners report to the Planner.  The Planner directs and supervises the planning and scheduling activities to achieve ArcelorMittal’s objectives of increasing productivity, controlling maintenance costs, minimizing downtime, increasing throughput, safety performance, and customer satisfaction.  Position requires someone with strong leadership and organizational skills and must be very forward thinker.

 

Responsibilities:

 Reviews work orders in Tabware (work order system) and assigns to the appropriate Area Planner.Holds Area Planners accountable for performing their designated roles.Coaches Area Planners to make sure they are current on their planning activities.Assures the Area Planners have complete job plans that include procedures, drawings, required permits, lockouts, materials, tools, equipment, etc.Schedule planned work so that the most important jobs are performed first as indicated by the equipment priority system.Administers the daily, weekly, shutdown, and major outage planning/scheduling process.Assure that balanced daily and weekly schedules are provided through coordinated labor, material, equipment, and work area availability. Manages the maintenance organization workload to keep the backlog of ready-to-execute work orders within 2 to 4 weeks for each work crew.Work with Area Planners to track schedule compliance.Provide prompt shutdown and major outage schedules.Interface with Operations personnel in regards to all planning efforts.Eliminate barriers that interfere with the planning process.Be proficient in Microsoft Project or equivalent in both use and ability to teach Area Planners.Ability to develop thorough work scopes for contractor work and hold appropriate bid meetings.Maintain a long-range master schedule of any projects and/or critical maintenance jobs that must be coordinated with the reliability program.

 

Experience:

Three years maintenance supervisor experience

Two years maintenance planning experience

 

Education:

BS Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience
