The manufacturing leader in the material handling industry seeks a Machine Shop Business Unit Manager.  The ideal individual will be part of the management team and is responsible for actively planning, directing and coordinating the machine shop activities at AWC. Expertise in production planning and department  scheduling, expediting and monitoring of machined components in the manufacturing process to ensure goals related to customer satisfaction / on time delivery, inventory turns, schedule compliance and financial performances are met and exceeded.  Works directly with sales and operations to establish, approve and fulfill agreed-upon manufacturing build plans from engineering.  Manages all operations in relations to raw material and finished goods inventory, material movement and shipment processes.  Reduces costs and lead times for purchased items, negotiates purchase agreements for steel and similar products.  The main focus of the position is accurate management of resources and coordination of activities that result in master schedules and reduce cycle times.  The position works to anticipate and exceed customer expectations internal and external to the organization.  Must be a pro-active leader with a strong manufacturing floor presence as well as excellent ability to coach, mentor, develop and motivate staff.  Reports directly to the Plant Manager.

 

Essential Duties Include:

§  Implements, coordinates and monitors production schedules and work flow activities from time of release to delivery of completed finished product

§  Develops and implements the production control functions including shop floor scheduling, material requirements, planning systems, work-in-process tracking and material variance controls.

§  Coordinates the material flow processes and reporting of results

§  Assists in the development of and implements procedures, related to the movement of inventory, to assure maintenance and accuracy of inventory levels.

§  Ability to coordinate multiple functions from the shop floor to customer level.

§  Possess excellent problem solving skills, multi-tasking skills, strong management skills, and demonstrated knowledge of computer literacy in Microsoft office programs especially Excel. 

§  Excellent written/verbal communication skills

§  Demonstrate excellent team management

 

Area of Accountability:

§  Responsible for processes associated with machining using manual and CNC equipment

§  Motivate team members in the achievement of performance objectives

§  Continually improve response times and quality levels of the production systems

§  Train team members in the elimination of barriers to achievement

§  Act as a leadership team in the identification of improvement opportunities and the development of organizational priorities

§  Comply with all safety standards and regulations and continually strive to maintain a safe work environment

 

Major Responsiblities:

§  Develop, lead, counsel, and support teams that are effective in meeting their stated objectives in: Customer Service, Quality, Throughput, Costs, and Safety

§  Develop knowledge of the processes they are responsible for, then, transfer that knowledge to the team members

§  Develop teams and team members to accept increasing levels of responsibility and authority; with ultimate objective being self-direction

 

Education and/or Experience:

§  Minimum of ten years experience managing within a manufacturing environment 

§  College degree or equivalent work experience required

§  Expertise on capacity planning and shop scheduling

§  Experience with  Sytline/MRP/MasterCam  system is preferred
