The Market Area District Manager is responsible for continually focusing on achieving profitability through recycling operations revenue generation, cost control, customer satisfaction, Operational Excellence and management development, while maintaining the integrity of Waste Management Recycle America Core Values and Code of Conduct. Essential Functions * Comply and ensure adherence to Waste Management Recycle America Mission to Zero standards and regulations to encourage safe and efficient operations. * Play a pivotal role in the sourcing and sales efforts of each site within the assigned Market Area Group, including meeting current and potential customers and attending customer/city sponsored events as appropriate. * Confers with customers and representatives of associated industries to evaluate and promote improved and expanded services in market area(s). * Assure quality of all shipments. * Meet all financial review dates and corporate directed programs in a timely fashion. * Review monthly financial results with each MRF manager. * Conduct regular WAR calls and meetings for assigned sites as appropriate. * Ensure that each site consistently follows recycling excellence procedure and continues to work toward and/or maintain acceptable operational/financial standards. * Develops plans for efficient use of materials, machines, and employees. * Oversee and assist budget process as required. * Assist in creating a positive team-oriented environment which focuses on the customer, through employee development and motivation. * Ensure the cleanliness and maintenance of the physical property of each site through inspections and preventive maintenance programs with MRF managers. * Oversee the forecasting of the Market Area financial position monthly. * Utilizing the PDS system, develop MRF managers for future advancement through training and one-on-one coaching. * Motivate, coach, counsel and discipline MRF Managers according to Waste Management Recycle America procedures, and ensure that managers are in compliance to the standards in their administration of counseling and disciplinary steps. * Prepare and conduct all MRF management level candidate interviews, and follow hiring procedures according to Waste Management Recycle America hiring processes and procedures. Ensure that all district managers are in compliance with the standards in their interviewing and hiring procedures. * Interview all prospective final candidates for any vacant management position within the Market Area prior to any offer being extended. Specific Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities and be able to explain and demonstrate that he or she can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of knowledge, skills, and abilities. * Must be able to speak, read, write and understand the primary language used in the workplace. Bilingual skills a plus. * Must be able to read and write to facilitate the communication process. Must be able to convey information and ideas clearly. * Requires good communication skills, both verbal and written. * Must have quick problem solving ability. * Ability to maintain confidentiality. * Must have the ability to assimilate complete information, data, etc., from disparate sources and consider, adjust or modify to meet the constraints of the particular need. * Must be able to work with and understand financial information and data and possess basic computational ability. * Must possess basic to intermediate computer skills. Experience using Outlook, Excel and Word required. * Proven ability to maintain good working relationships with coworkers, customers, and vendors. * Ability to work effectively and efficiently both independently and in a team environment. * Working knowledge of federal, state and local laws governing equal employment opportunity and civil rights, occupational safety and health, wage and hour issues, and labor relations, including but not limited to the following statutes and their comparable state and local laws; Title VII, ADEA, Equal Pay Act, Pregnancy Discrimination Act, FLSA, ADA, OSHA, FMLA and NLRA. A minimum of 10 years plus of related progressive management experience in recycling, waste or transportation or related field; or a 4-year college degree and/or an advanced degree and a minimum of 6 years of related progressive management experience; or a 2-year college degree and a minimum of 8 years of related progressive management experience.
