OverviewThe Import Compliance Specialist ensures the my client's adherence to U.S. Customs laws and regulations. This includes, but is not limited to classification, documentation, valuation, and the supervision of Company's Customhouse brokers and Freight Forwarders. Assists in establishing and implementing a Customs Compliance Program, including the maintenance, amendment or establishment of new company policies and procedures. Responsibilities1. Import Compliance Manages and administers the import process by continually reviewing import administration regulations for changes. Responds to inquiries regarding classification, duty rates, documentation requirements, or other import regulations to ensure timely clearance. 2. Classification Classifies products using (a) the Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTSUS) according to General Rules of Interpretation (GRI's), (b) Binding Rulings, (c) Explanatory Notes, (d) Informed Compliance Publications, (e) Reasonable Care Guides, and (f) other established Customs information. Interfaces with SBU's and Trade Compliance professionals to gather the necessary data on the products to properly classify the goods. Maintains and provides Customhouse brokers and Freight Forwarders with information regarding classification. 3. Data Management Assists Product Management and Engineering to determine correct classification of materials, and updates workflow to submit to SAP master data as needed. Develops, creates or obtains all necessary reports to monitor and measure performance of the Customs Compliance Program. 4. Technical Leadership and Training Maintains current and accurate knowledge of Import Administration Regulations for changes and provides guidance/training to cross-functional groups throughout the organization, including international locations, on all compliance requirements and procedures. Interfaces extensively with internal/external customer base. Updates policies as necessary and communicates during training sessions. Attends seminars and meetings and reads journals and other industry publication to maintain knowledge of specialized information and identify any regulation or industry changes affecting Company's' business File international freight claims as required. 5. Compliance Record-keeping Monitors Customhouse brokers and Freight Forwarders to ensure timeliness of clearance, timeliness of payment of duties and fees, accuracy of data transmitted and resolve entry/exit problems. Administers the auditing of Customhouse broker invoices to ensure the rates provided are accurate. Ensures Business Unit maintains Customs Entry and Customs Compliance Records per the guidelines of U.S. Customs' Record-keeping Requirements. Audits the packets to ensure the proper filing of entry information, works with Forwarders and Customs to initiate reconciliations. Monitors and updates the Import Compliance manual as appropriate. 6. Compliance Programs Assists in the company's participation in the C-TPAT program, ISA, ACE and other US Customs compliance or preferential treatment programs. Assists in preparation for duty drawback program. 7. Customs Interface Responds to CF 28's, 29's or other written or oral Customs inquiries. Ensures the proper and timely filing of all post entry reconciliation including voluntary tenders, protests, or Supplemental Information Letter's (SIL). Identify customs initiatives, resources and technology improvements for the Customs Compliance Program. Requirements: Qualifications- Licensed Customs Broker preferred. - Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration or highly related field; - 3-5 years related experience. - 20% travel - Strong technical, leadership, and communication skills.
