NATIONAL GYPSUM COMPANY, headquartered in Charlotte, NC, is the second largest producer of gypsum wallboard in the United States. The company is vertically integrated, owning its gypsum and paper supplies. Over the last eight years, National Gypsum has invested over $1 billion in new plants, equipment, and systems.In addition to wallboard, the company produces interior finishing products, including joint compound, and cement backerboard (brand name of PermaBase®) used as underlayment for tile walls and floors. The company is recognized as the industry leader in customer service, providing a centralized customer service organization, technical service, e-business capabilities, and a strong carrier network.We have an immediate need for a HUMAN RESOURCES & SAFETY MANAGER at our Richmond, CA manufacturing facility reporting to the Plant Manager. JOB SUMMARY: This position is responsible for developing and maintaining an employee relations climate that creates and permits a stable and productive workforce. Manages and coordinates all functions of employee relations, including employment, labor relations, compensation and benefit services, manpower planning, training and development, safety, security, and workers’ compensation for compliance with federal and state regulations. MAJOR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES (not all inclusive): 1.) Implement and monitor all aspects of plant safety program:a. New hire training and orientation;b. Safety and First-Aid training for employees and supervisors;c. Safety program implementation;d. Safety reporting;e. Investigate safety incidents and recommend corrective action.2.) Recruit and hire qualified applicants to keep plant appropriately staffed:a. Attract qualified candidates that reflect community diversity;b. Coordinate assessment testing of qualified candidates;c. Conduct interviews and train supervisors in proper interviewing;d. Complete required physical and background checks on all candidates;e. Conduct orientation of new hires.3.) Support plant management in creating a positive employee relations environment:a. Administer labor contract;b. Participate in the development and implementation of Employee Opinion Action Plans;c. Advise supervisors on appropriate disciplinary actions;d. Encourage recognition of employee accomplishments;e. Represent employees’ views and needs to management.4.) Ensure compliance with federal, state and local employment laws, as well as Corporate and plant policies and procedures.5.) Provide training to employees on benefit programs and assist employees with resolution of insurance-related issues.6.) Assist plant management in the training of employees for specific jobs ensuring that employees are competent in their key area of responsibilities. EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS: · Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in Personnel Management, or equivalent work experience.· 5 years Personnel experience in a manufacturing environment.· Minimum 3 years safety and health management experience in a manufacturing environment with working knowledge of OSHA compliance and training requirements.· Working knowledge of California state employment law.· Excellent communication and group presentation skills.· Experience in conducting training programs.· Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office). · PHR/SPHR certification a plus.
