Fenestration Inspector

ALI PROSPECTIVE EMPLOYEE REQUIREMENTS

Associated Laboratories, Inc. is a privately owned certification and testing laboratory, whose primary contract is administrating the certification programs of the leading trade association for the United States fenestration industry. We have an entry-level position available as a fenestration inspector.

DUTIES: Our employees travel primarily throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico, inspecting window and door manufacturing facilities: there will be limited opportunities for travel abroad. They inspect finished products and quality control documentation for compliance of certification program requirements, and they inspect components for current test specification compliance. Other duties may include:

-Traveling to component manufacturers to sample components for testing;

-Traveling to window manufacturing facilities to witness testing of windows;

-Preparation and testing of windows in our in-house test facility;

-Preparation and testing of window components in our laboratory.

This position also requires the ability to compare assembly drawings with computer-generated models of cross-sections. Training regarding certification program rules will be provided.

 RESPONSIBILITIES: Once a travel schedule is assigned, the inspector must coordinate air and ground transportation and lodging, assemble the necessary documentation and contact the manufacturers as necessary. Upon completion of the inspection schedule, the inspector must document all findings and coordinate follow-up actions as required. Testing of windows requires thorough documentation of window assembly and test results: attention to detail is imperative.

            Because this is a testing laboratory, the inspectors may be called on to perform a wide variety of tasks, including but not limited to: heavy lifting of large test specimens, operating test machinery, operating power tools, construction of test apparatus and multi-story outdoor exposure.

SKILLS: Self-motivation is a must. We will teach you the information necessary to perform your duties; much of the initial training will involve becoming proficient in the rules, methods, documents and terminology of the window and door industry. Since you will be in contact with everyone from production line employees to the company president, we are looking for someone who is articulate, polite, composed and professional.

CAD/CAM experience will assist in the 2-D modeling review.

EDUCATION: A Bachelor’s degree is highly desired, but not essential. Experience in fenestration fabrication, sales or installation is highly desirable. Previous inspection or travel experience is beneficial.
