Process Technician Full-time position in the south metro 10pm - 8am, with a rotation of 4 days on/4 days off. We are seeking someone who is team oriented, able to multitask, excellent with communication, management experience, willing and wanting to work in a blue collar setting, technical minded with math and chemistry skills, not concerned with getting their hands dirty, proficient on the computer (Lotus Notes a plus), good problem solver, etc. We consider this position to be entry-level management work. Individual will report to a plant supervisor who will have approximately 30 individuals working throughout the plant at one time. Process tech acts as right hand to the supervisor ensuring the production maintains a steady pace, helping to train other employee's on how to do their work, resolving issues that may arise, etc. While this is not a union position, the employee's working on the plant floor are unionized. Advise and otherwise assist shift managers in the resolution of production and/or process problems. Education, Experience, and Skills Requirements • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in the sciences • Experience in a metal casting, foundry, or similar production operation • Experience in managing and coaching • Able to balance multiple projects • Ability to read and understand technical directions and follow technical instructions • Ability to be flexible and adaptable, and change priorities and direction with minimal notice • Strong technical skills in mechanical engineering and maintenance of machinery and equipment • Strong PC skills to access and maintain information and communicate electronically • Strong interpersonal skills, including listening and offering positive and constructive feedback • Excellent structured trouble-shooting and problem-solving skills • Ability to anticipate problems and take necessary action to minimize likelihood and impact of problem • Good organizational skills • Excellent communication skills • Good math, reading, and writing skills • Basic First Aid and CPR skills Decision Making and Problem Solving Most problems encountered are similar in nature to previously encountered problems; certain aspects of the problem may differ. The decision-making process is aided by operating procedures as well as advice from supervisors. Decision-making is typically choosing a preferred solution from a set of limited known alternatives. Some judgment is required in selection of a solution that best fits the circumstances. Problem solving often requires some creativity and persistence to find the information required to solve the problem. Decisions will have an immediate and potentially significant impact on the production process, the quality of the product, compliance with environmental standards, and the safety of the plant and staff. Typical decisions include: Advising a shift supervisor on the best solution when production equipment breaks or malfunctions. Determining when a developing problem requires intervention by others, either on or off of their shift. Authority and Responsibility 1. Review and monitor production processes to ensure that RMPC, furnace, refinery, water treatment, and resource plastics are operating in a stable environment 2. Monitor systems to ensure developing problems are identified and resolved as quickly as possible 3. Advise shift managers on technical operating problems 4. Assist shift supervisor(s) and lead person(s) in training production staff on production, safety, and quality issues 5. Advise shift supervisor(s) and laboratory manager in production process improvements to increase labor productivity 6. Take immediate action when observing safety violations that are life threatening or pose risk of serious injury. Otherwise, advise shift supervisor of safety and procedural violations or variances so the shift supervisor can take the appropriate action 7. Perform routine testing on raw goods, in-process products, and finished goods according to company standards, customer specifications, and any applicable regulatory standards 8. Sample wastewater and treated water to ensure water treatment plant is operating properly. Sample softened water as requested 9. Test samples for sulfur content 10. Sample refinery output to confirm product is within specifications 11. Conduct slag analysis and other chemical analysis as requested. Conduct labortory analysis on other materials as needed. 12. Perform preventative and periodic maintenance and calibration on laboratory equipment 13. Operate and check high volume air monitors 14. Keep shift supervisor apprised of work schedule and location at all times during shift 15. Sit on and participate in meetings and teams, including but not limited to the following • Safety Meeting • Monthly managers’ meeting 16. Other duties and tasks as assigned by management Interpersonal Relations and Contacts • Interpersonal contacts are generally limited to co-workers. • Interpersonal exchanges are primarily an exchange of factual information, with some follow up questions. • Communication to production staff regarding performance, safety, and production issues must be done in a manner that reflects the process technician’s advisory capacity and does not undermine or otherwise detract from the shift supervisors authority and responsibility. Working Conditions • Required to wear respiratory protection up to 13 hours a day • Required to be able to move about the plant, including climbing a flight of stairs, up to 13 hours a day • Must be able to work in a hot production area wearing protective clothing up to 13 hours per day • Must be available to help with vacation coverage and “on-call” as needed Special Considerations The process technician will be periodically assigned to the other shifts as relief for the other process technicians during vacations, illnesses, and other absences.
