Engine Group Leader - Engine Development

Summary:  The Engine Group Leader (engine development) supervises a team of associates in the development of engine packages to include engine, intake, EFI and carburetion systems, exhaust, cooling, controls, sound and vibration control, and exhaust emissions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1.  Product Planning:

A.  Possess an understanding of engine package function required to meet the consumers' desires.

B.  Works with product teams and team managers to develop the engine systems required to meet and exceed consumer demand.

C.  Communicates the present and future engine plans of the product teams to the engine group team  members.

2.  Design - Development - Test

A.  Develops all engine specifications and related parts specifications with follow through for release.

B.  Establishes and directs the design and development to release program for all engine and engine related parts.

C.  Operates and analyzes engine package systems for snowmobiles and other recreational products.

D.  Ensure that designs meet cost targets and have manufacturing input.

E.  Keep current with engine technology and practices and direct it into the company product where applicable.

F.  Ability to conduct complete and accurate evaluation of the products.

3.  Scheduling:

A.  Directs development and maintenance of schedules with milestones based on a product plan to develop on a timely basis all function so of the engine package system.  These schedules are coordinated with other engineering groups and vendors. 

B.  Review schedule as needed with Engineering Design Manager.

4.  Supervision:

A.  Ensure proper handling of confidential information, data and materials.

B.  Attend engineering staff meetings when requested.

C.  Communicate development status and status of all projects with other departments.

D.  Responsible for administration of company policies to associates.

E.  Communicate workload and scheduling with the department in order to meet the company's goals.

F.  Develop and maintain records of the engine systems.

G.  Hire, train and direct the necessary personnel to accomplish department goals.

5.  Budgeting/Cost Control

A.  Prepare a yearly tooling list of the engine package and related parts for purchasing for preparing a yearly tooling budget by September 15th.

Qualifications:

1.  Possess knowledge of CAD, able to direct Design Engineers and CAD Designers.

2.  Possess knowledge of manufacturing process and able to communicate with foreign supplier.

Education and/or Experience:

1.  Ability to actively participate in the evaluation, testing and development of company products in all types of environmental conditions.
