Buyer / Commodity Manager

The Buyer / Commodity Manager reports directly to the Director of Operations and is responsible for day-to-day effective purchasing of direct and indirect material as well as development and execution of strategic commodity plans and procurement process improvements.  The ideal candidate will have strong attention to detail, a sense of urgency, ability to think strategically, and excellent problem solving, communication, negotiation, and teamwork skills.  Success will be measured through tracked results in the areas of P.P.V. (purchase price variance), inventory turns, supplier performance, and support towards plant’s Fill Rate goals.  Success will also be measured by the individual’s ability to develop and implement well planned and creative commodity plans and procurement process improvements.

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIESNegotiate contracts with suppliers that provide for continuous year-over-year improvements in performance, including cost, quality and delivery.Ensure the availability of production parts while at the same time minimizing inventory carrying costs and exposure. Support 95% on-time delivery to customer request.Ensure high quality products from suppliers within commodities of responsibilityDevelop and execute strategic commodity plans and procurement process improvementPerform high quality transactions to eliminate A/P issues and ensure efficient receivingDevelop new vendor relationships and procurement channels necessary to support business and supply chain objectives.



REQUIRED EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION

· Bachelors degree in Supply Chain Management, Purchasing, Logistics, Material Management, Business or related field

· 2 years of purchasing experience in a just-in-time environment

· Ability to effectively negotiate price, quality, delivery, and other terms with suppliers.

· Experience partnering with vendors and managing process improvement

· Experience managing on-time delivery with vendors and troubleshooting delivery issues

· Experience with supplier selection and contract development

· Excellent communication skills to effectively interact at various levels within an organization.

· Ability to work in cross-functional teams.

· Strong analytical and problem solving skills

 

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONSCertified Purchasing Management (CPM) or Certified Purchasing Inventory Management (CPIM)
