MAJOR PURPOSE OF POSITION

Procure major contract inventories and services, subcontract materials, production, and MRO inventories and services for the Mining Machinery Division and South Milwaukee Plant.

JOB FUNCTIONS

1. Develop new and alternate sources, initiate purchase orders and administer those orders to ensure timely delivery and optimize vendor performances for requirements commensurate with quality, service, price and delivery.

2. Maintain an on-going program of profit improvement through cost reductions, cost avoidance, vendor negotiations, and decreasing inventories by monitoring and reducing early receipts.

3. Reduce and maintain overdue orders to meet production requirements by negotiating best deliveries and expediting orders through vendors in accordance with the Production Plan.

4. Maintain major contract and subcontract orders, authorize payment of all vendor invoices to insure that all requirements regarding price, quality, service and delivery have been met.

5. Update upper management with information regarding schedules, deliveries, prices and availability.

6. Develop personnel by instructing, training and assisting in various job duties to meet their goals, to enhance and encourage development of personnel for present and future growth.

ADDITIONAL JOB REQUIREMENTS

ORGANIZING AND PLANNING

Responsible for planning and initiating new commodity purchases of major contract inventories, subcontract, and for other parts and construction requirements; new alternate sourcing, maintain control over all open orders.

COMMUNICATION

Written and verbal communications regarding purchase order requirements such as schedules, contract orders, manufacturing processes, prices, availability and quality, with vendors and Company personnel.


COOPERATION

Assist in providing status and solutions to and from vendors and Company personnel regarding deliveries, manufacturing process, warranties, prices, specification changes, and quality.

DEVELOPMENT OF OTHERS

Assist buyers and clerical personnel in various job duties by developing, training, and encouraging ideas and feedback for present and future growth.

PRINCIPAL CHALLENGES

- Ensuring vendor conformance to major contract and subcontract orders
- Reduce supplier costs
- Improve on-time deliveries and quality requirements to maximize Company profitability
- Establish alternate vendor sources to obtain competitive deliveries and prices.


KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor's degree preferred, job knowledge gained through experience as described below in Type and Length of Experience is required. A working knowledge of manufacturing processes (with emphasis in machining and fabrication), as well as knowledge of contract orders, negotiations and purchasing policies and procedures is also required.


TYPE AND LENGTH OF EXPERIENCE

Four (4) to six (6) years experience in field related to purchases of components, raw materials, or semi-finished goods, preferably for use in the manufacture of heavy equipment.

GENERAL INFORMATION

Position requires ability to negotiate and control major contract orders, as well as ability to communicate between suppliers and BI personnel in order to maintain a positive relationship with supplier community. Must be agreeable to occasional travel.
