#0845 – Shift Manager – Iron Producing – Furnace Operations

 

ArcelorMittal Cleveland has an immediate opening for a Shift Manager – Furnace Operations in the Iron Producing Division in Cleveland, Ohio.  The following primary position responsibilities and key position requirements are intended to provide an overview of the position, but are not all-inclusive.

 

Job Description:Directly responsible for operation of furnace and casthouse.Monitors operating conditions of furnace and makes corrective actions as needed.Directs casthouse operators, oversees casting of furnace and monitors critical cooling systems.Hands on with daily operating issues involving casthouse and furnace equipment.Responsible for safety of crews and outside contractors.Responsible for maintaining environmental compliance 24 hrs/day and demonstrating compliance to casthouse emission standards.Responsible for shutdown and startup procedures, including critical gas system isolating purges.Directly involved in the job and safety training of crews.Works directly under the Shift Manager as well as in close communication with the other Furnace Operator and Process Coordinator.Provides a communication link between crew, Shift Manager and Process Coordinator.Learn all facets of operation and furnace equipment (extensive training program). Quickly pick up new technology and put into practice to include an Ironmaking course at McMaster.Learn the Process Coordinator position.Must be able to adapt to the rigors of a physically demanding job to include physically demanding casthouse work (trough, runners, tuyere changes; must be able to climb furnace stack to inspect water circuitsWill be working in excessive heat at times.Will be required to sometimes wear respirators and/or self contained breathing equipment.



Experience Requirements

Minimum/Basic Requirements:

Minimum of two years supervisory experience in the Primary end of Iron and Steelmaking or 5 years or more of related experience in industrial operations.

 

Preferred Requirements:

Two to four years experience as a Furnace Operator (Blower Foreman).

 

Education Requirements

Minimum/Basic Requirements:

High School Graduate or equivalent GED

 

Preferred Requirements:

Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Management

 

Other Requirements: Must possess good interpersonal skillsMust be able to make quick fact based decisions
