ArcelorMittal Cleveland has an immediate opening for an Engineer – Steel Producing Product Metallurgist in the Quality Systems Division in Cleveland, Ohio. The following primary position responsibilities and key position requirements are intended to provide an overview of the position, but are not all-inclusive.
Job Description:Review and disposition daily production to confirm that all product characteristics meet the internal or external customer’s requirements. This includes review of casting parameters, sulfur prints, and chemistry. Reprocess or refer non-conforming material when necessary.Respond to product and process inquiries from commercial / facility loading.Contribute to periodic statistical studies or other projects related to product development and process improvement.Update and maintain BOF, LMF, & Caster Practices and Practice Cards.Contribute to investigation, analysis, and improvement of product defects found through internal inspection or customer claims. Institute permanent corrective actions or process improvements as necessary.Observe, analyze, and improve steel producing department quality and operating performance.Contribute to product and process improvement projects.Represent ArcelorMittal and Steel Producing operations at technical meetings or exchanges with customers. Must learn to conduct tours of the Steel Producing Operations.Investigate and respond to customer and internal corrective actions.Position requires rotating weekend coverage and occasional off shift work to monitor trials.Provide supplementary supervision and guidance to hourly operations employees. Promote a positive work culture by being a role model for communication, safety, teamwork, and education.
Experience Requirements:
Minimum/Basic Requirements:Computer literate and comfortable using Microsoft Office products.Minimum of 2 years experience in a Primary Metals Industry (Iron, Steel, Aluminum, etc.).
Preferred Requirements:Should have experience with TS 16949:2002, or a similar quality standard.Should have a thorough understanding of continuous casting and secondary ladle refining.Minimum of 5 years experience in Flat Rolled Steel.
Education Requirements:
Minimum/Basic Requirements:B.S. degree in Metallurgy / Materials Science or a related Engineering discipline.
Preferred Requirements:Intermediate to advanced knowledge of statistics.Root Cause Analysis Training
Other Requirements: Must be detail oriented and very comfortable working with computers.Must be able to function in a team environment and provide support to team members.Strong communication skills are essential Must be comfortable making presentations to various size groups within the company.Must be comfortable working at heights and around molten steel.
