STAFF SCIENTIST

PURPOSE: To provide expertise and development of research-based competencies in support of multiple biopharmaceutical discovery projects aimed at the identification and early development of novel therapeutics for the control of autoimmune and inflammatory diseases.RELATIONSHIPS:Reports to the Department Head. Internal relationships include the project teams, and research colleagues internally and globally. External relationships include relevant parts of the autoimmunity and inflammation research community, including key opinion leaders. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:SCIENTIFIC ROLE• Supervise day to day activities of research personnel in a targeted Discovery area.• Provide unified research-driven innovation and continuous improvement within own Section and across Sections.• Implement and supervise laboratory studies in support of inflammation and autoimmunity research. • Assume responsibility for project design and implementation.• Develop and manage relevant research protocols in support of Discovery efforts.• Interpret and properly document experimental data.• Maintain current awareness of scientific literature in targeted Discovery area, including maintaining awareness of proprietary technologies.• Draft scientific reports and prepare presentation slides. • Organize and prepare manuscripts for publication.• Attend appropriate external scientific meetings and, where possible, present data. • Achieve business goals, share information, knowledge and skills and promote cross-functional teamwork.• Identify potential external collaborators within scientific area and, where possible, explore joint research opportunities.• Provide leadership towards ensuring efficient goal-oriented focus of laboratory staff.
