Job Summary The Route Manager - Tractor Trailer oversees the daily operation of transportation drivers and site based operators by providing leadership, direction, communication and coaching to employees. This position plays a critical role in developing and maintaining an environment of trust, teamwork, accountability, self-confidence and business ownership among driver/operator staff. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other minor duties may be assigned. * Plan, manage and deploy manpower and equipment for site-wide day shift operations. * Directly supervise the activities of 45 drivers, hostlers and operators during the swing shift including Saturday operation. * Interacts directly with drivers providing feedback and on the spot training. * Performs and documents equipment inspections in accordance with corporate and DOT standards. * Effectively communicates with maintenance department to insure operating needs are met and service and repairs re completed as prescribed. * Provide leadership for the introduction, training and implementation of M2Z initiatives. * Conduct and monitor the quality and quantity of employee observations. o OBA required observations o Post accident observations o MIE observations * Actively participate in the preparation and monitoring of bi weekly employee safety meetings. * Utilize existing technology (i.e. GPS) and identify new technologies that will enhance the safety and efficiency of transportation operations. * Interact directly with the workforce to promote an environment that allows for the free exchange of ideas intended to enhance existing safety and production goals. * Communicate daily with other supervisors to ensure smooth transition between shifts in order to meet department goals. * Interact with landfill and site mangers to insure transportation obligations are satisfied. Education And Experience * High School Diploma or equivalent required; some college preferred. * A minimum of 3 years of progressive supervisory experience in a union environment with an emphasis on dispatching, monitoring and supervising semi-tractor trailer drivers. Other Minimum Qualifications * Ability to perform routine calculations. * Proficient in the use of Personal Computers and software including MS Word, Excel and other Windows based applications. * Demonstrated high level of Familiarity with Title XIII and Title 49 requirements. * Ability to work independently while providing leadership, problem solving and time management skills. * Skill and experience in collaboration among fellow supervisors and managers in order to provide a cohesive team.
