General Board of Global Ministries, a religious, nonprofit organization of the United Methodist Church, has administrative opportunities available in our NYC based headquarters.
The basic purpose and primary responsibility of the person(s) in these supporting positions shall be to assist the assigned Executive(s) in the fulfillment of full administrative and/or programmatic duties of their office, section or unit, including the performance of secretarial duties as needed. Will require a thorough knowledge of the particular program of assignment and its relationship to the assigned unit, the Board, and The United Methodist Church. Usually requires independent judgment and tact and the undertaking of complex tasks. Essential duties may include, but are not limited to, composing and editing program-related correspondences in accordance with Board policies and procedures, which include good communication skills (written & verbal). Taking dictation of letters and documents and transcribing. Maintaining files and records, gathering and summarizing data and preparing reports, scheduling appointments, arranging and/or preparing meetings, and making travel arrangements.
Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Other Specialized Knowledge: Typing 50 to 60 wpm. Secretarial training preferred, good communication skills and familiarity with computerized database programs required, computer savvy. Accuracy in grammar and punctuation and good composition skills required. Customer service orientated, answer and screen calls, open and sort mail, ability to transcribe or take dictation. Self-Starter with ability to multi-task; must also be detailed orientated and highly organized. Experience: Two (2) to Three (3) years of responsible office experience necessary.
