Junior Research Analyst - Global Economics

Junior Research Analyst – Global Economics team

McKinsey’s North American Knowledge Center (NAKC) provides research and analytic support to McKinsey consultants. The Center, located in Waltham, MA (20 minutes outside of Boston) is looking to hire a Junior Research Analyst to join the Global Economics team.

Global Economics is a Firm sponsored specialized functional capability supporting consultants with the client application of economic concepts, principles and advanced techniques.  Global Economics analysts have been collaborating with and supporting McKinsey’s Global Institute (“MGI”) and other practices across a wide range of knowledge priorities over the past two years and have been institutionalizing the resulting expertise and knowledge assets for client service teams.  In addition, the Global Economics team and MGI have developed a joint model for all request-based consultant support.  The team is currently comprised of 14 analysts in North America and India. 

The Global Economics team has developed capabilities in the areas of economic development, labor markets, industry economics, consumer markets, capital markets, trade, economic forecasting/modeling, and macroeconomics.  The team has been supporting consultants across all regions both with the specialized application of these capabilities along request-based, advisory and project staffing-based delivery models. 

Responsibilities include:

As a Junior Research Analyst, you will work with consultants and research colleagues to:

· Articulate, scope, and prioritize research needs

· Identify and gather relevant information using a broad spectrum of sources, within tight deadlines

· Engage in team problem solving and contribute to knowledge creation initiatives

· Continue to expand your knowledge and contribute to building the Center

Requirements include:

· Undergraduate degree in economics and/or at least one to two years work experience or internship applying economic data and analysis to business or policy problems (if not an economics major, should have taken some relevant coursework)

· Solid foundation with a broad range of economic and business topics; more in-depth knowledge in one or two areas is helpful

· Familiarity with the full range of government economic and demographic data as well as other sources of economic data and analysis

· Facility with excel and other analytic tools

· Background in econometrics, model building and forecasting desirable

· Ability to synthesize and present information quickly and coherently, in an actionable manner with a focus on implications
