Director Marketing and Communication

Centering Healthcare Institute (CHI) is a non-profit organization based in Boston, MA. CHI is a leader in healthcare innovation, and its mission is to improve health outcomes for all Americans by changing the paradigm of health services from individual care to a group care model.

CHI’s flagship model, CenteringPregnancy, gathers groups of expecting mothers together for their prenatal care, eliminating wasted time in the waiting room and extending each woman’s time with her provider from two hours to twenty hours over the course of her pregnancy. The learning, laughter, trust, and mutual support women experience through CenteringPregnancy results in dramatically higher patient satisfaction and improved health outcomes for mothers and babies (most notably, a 33% reduction in preterm birth according to a multi-site randomized trial). Centering replaces, rather than supplements, traditional healthcare and is fully reimbursable.

Centering models are delivering results on all fronts: better patient outcomes, improved patient satisfaction, and cost savings – and the results are most striking for high-risk populations. Demand for Centering is growing rapidly and CHI is building a professional team based in Boston, MA, that will establish and support hundreds of high-quality, high-impact Centering sites across the United States.

CHI is distinguished by recognition, awards, and support received from several prestigious organizations including AHRQ Innovations, Mayo Clinic: Conference on Innovative Care, Trout Premier Care Award, March of Dimes, Healthy Start, and the American College of Nurse Midwives. There are more than two dozen publications and articles describing research findings and the Centering practice.
