Library Asst, Loans

Howrey LLP is one of the world's leading legal practices, focusing on intellectual property, antitrust/competition law, complex business litigation, and government and international advocacy.  Our Washington, DC office is currently seeking a Library Library Assistant II Interlibrary Loan/Billing, to provide interlibrary loan functions on a day-to-day basis.

Responsibilities: Conducts interlibrary loan interviews with library clients to determine the most efficient and cost-effective means of obtaining requested information.Conducts research to locate requested materials, using print and non-print media, online and computer resources within and outside the Firm.Obtains documents from law firms, academic, government, and special libraries around the world.Maintains the Interlibrary Loan database in Liberty4, Howrey’s integrated library system, and Howrey’s holdings in the LLSDC Union List.Receives and date stamps all incoming invoices. Verifies that invoiced items have been received and processes invoices for payment.Adds and maintains data in the Acquisitions module of Liberty4. Maintains user records in the Liberty4 Borrowers database, LexisNexis Total Alerts database, and various other databases. Provides backup for the Library Assistant I position. Other duties as assigned.Requirements: BA/BS from an accredited college or university. Minimum of 2-4 years experience as a library assistant, with preference given to law library experience. Previous library experience required, law firm library experience preferred.Intermediate to advanced proficiency with computer resources including, but not limited to Softlink Liberty4. Beginner knowledge of MS Office 2003 (or higher), including MS Word, Excel, Outlook, Access and Powerpoint, and Interwoven. Ability to communicate effectively with both management and staff, including the ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, write routine reports and correspondence, and speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization. Ability to communicate clearly, orally and in writing. Ability to work as part of a team. Ability to prioritize and plan activities. Good organizational skills. Minimum 50 wpm typing. Ability to work under pressure and with short deadlines. Ability to adapt to a changing environment. Ability to lift or move up to 50 pounds.
