SUMMARY

Under general supervision, the Collector notifies or locates debtors with delinquent accounts and attempts to secure payment according to client guidelines and in compliance with the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (F.D.C.P.A.) by performing the following duties.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

 Mails form letters to debtors or representatives to notify and encourage payment of delinquent accounts.Confers with debtors or representatives by telephone in attempt to determine reason for overdue payment, reviewing terms of sales, service, or credit contract with client.Calculates payment arrangements and negotiates settlements which may require supervisor/client approval.Documents information about financial status of debtors and status of collection efforts.Performs data entry to update notes on account.Prepares miscellaneous correspondence and reports.Contacts client, debtors, debtors' representatives, attorneys, and courts to provide status updates and request/supply additional information and documentation.Processes payments.Searches internet, public records, city and telephone directories, credit bureau reports, and contacts employer and post office to locate debtor and/or debtor assets.Arranges repossession and/or sale of merchandise, such as automobile, furniture, and appliances, when debtor fails to make payment, as required.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:  High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and a minimum of 3 months relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
