POSITION
SUMMARY:
The Corinne Wolfe Children's Law Center (CLC) at the Institute of Public Law (IPL) is seeking a highly motivated attorney who has excellent writing and editing skills and a strong interest in child welfare and juvenile justice. The CLC provides legal and multi-disciplinary training, technical and research assistance, and information to judges, attorneys, social workers and other professionals and volunteers who work with children and families in Children's Court cases. Under the direction of senior staff, the attorney hired would assist in updating the New Mexico Child Welfare Handbook and developing a comparable bench and bar guide for juvenile justice, conduct legal and policy research and analysis, and write and edit educational material for legal and lay audiences. This attorney will write text for the CLC's website and attorney listservs, participate in the preparation of grant proposals, develop outreach tools and build and maintain relationships with CLC constituents. As needed, the attorney will also assist in developing training programs. Duties in this regard may include, for example, meeting with planning committees, developing agendas, designing curricula, locating and working with speakers, obtaining, writing or editing training materials, and communicating with potential attendees. Potential exists for serving as a trainer or facilitator, and the CLC is interested in applicants with public speaking skills and training experience, although the primary focus is on research, analysis and writing.
The CLC is looking for an attorney who can write effectively and clearly for both legal and lay audiences. Creativity and attention to detail are also important in preparing publications and other materials and developing and conducting training programs.
As a training and resource center, the CLC works closely with the New Mexico Court Improvement Project and the courts, the Children, Youth and Families Department, legal and volunteer organizations, and others. Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community are important.

MINIMUM
QUALIFICATIONS:
J.D. or LL.B; no previous work experience required.
Member of NM State Bar, or member of State Bar of another state or District of Columbia and in possession of a Public Employee Limited License issued by the NM Supreme Court.

QUALIFICATIONS: Demonstrated Ability to write clearly, succinctly and accurately on legal and other issues for a range of audiences Experience writing and formatting documents on a computer, performing internet research, and utilizing email Experience: Representing children, parents, or the state in child abuse or neglect or delinquency cases in Children's Court of its equivalent Working with children and youth or working in the child welfare or juvenile justice system, or education related to these areas

Must be able to lift and carry 25 pound boxes
Must have a driver's license and access to vehicle for travel to meetings and events as needed
