Assistant General Counsel
Assistant General CounselJob DescriptionMerchandising Attorney for Sam¿s Club Legal Department. This individual will be reviewing, drafting and negotiating agreements with suppliers and other vendors and will develop and utilize an understanding of retail operations, including sourcing, replenishment and avenues and methods of sale. This individual will coordinate recalls and adverse event reporting with other departments within the company. This individual will review marketing materials and provide advice on advertising content and communications strategies. This individual will be required to stay abreast of legislation, industry trends and legal issues, give pro-active legal advise company management on relevant legal issues. Requirements: ¿ J.D. from accredited law school, with excellent academics ¿ Licensed and practicing attorney for a minimum of 6 years, with experience in corporate legal department, governmental agency or reputable law firm ¿ Excellent verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills, with capacity to communicate effectively with merchants, field associates, all levels of management, company executives, new media, and others ¿ Self-disciplined, organized, with strong attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple projects with different priorities in a fast- paced environment, while meeting deadlines. ¿ Excellent analytical skills, including the ability to assess potential liability deriving from a myriad of issues, including complicated regulatory schemes, and to recognize quickly the broader implications of apparently discrete legal issues ¿ Ability and commitment to develop creative, proactive business solutions to difficult legal problems ¿ Team Player who collaborates effectively and has ability to build consensus on an issue among different stakeholders ¿ Ability to work across various functions and levels and in cooperation with other individuals in the legal department and other internal departments, including, but not limited to, compliance, licensing, corporate and governmental affairs, finance, logistics, informational systems, operations, marketing, dotcom and web businesses, professional services, global sourcing, sustainability and supplier development ¿ Ability to expeditiously identify issues, options and risks and have confidence to deliver recommendations and advice.Preferred Requirements: ¿ Understanding of retail business, through work or educational background ¿ Experience drafting and negotiating contracts, policies and procedures ¿ Experience with marketing and advertising issues, anti-trust matters, intellectual property law and/or regulatory compliance matters Learn more about Wal-Mart Corporate Career Opportunities Wal-Mart will not tolerate discrimination in employment on the basis of race, color, age, sex, sexual orientation, religion, disability, ethnicity, national origin, marital status, veteran status, or any other legally-protected status. 2005 Wal-Mart Stores Inc.
