Web Producer/Analyst Drive Analysis & Optimization of Online Advertising Page Placement
Web Producer/Analyst ~ Drive Analysis & Optimization of Online Advertising Page PlacementJob Id:SOFG-PRDEV
In the acclaimed movie, Fight Club, Tyler Durden laid down some very specific rules for membership, but even with his enviable six pack, Durden would not have cut it in the wide open, Wild West world of online advertising. That's why the Web Producer/Web Analyst/ Online Ad Product Developer for SourceForge is a trailblazer. Knowing how a web browser displays pages to a user, and analyzing what people do when they land on a page, you unravel the behavioral DNA that determines what kind of page placement for ads generates the most impressions and page clicks. In an industry where concrete rules and standards are yet to emerge, you're in a select group of those who'll establish them. This role is most compelling to someone who 1. grasps Internet concepts like HTML, Flash and JavaScript; 2. can explain their implications to less-technical personnel in Sales and Marketing; and 3. who’d enjoy using pivot tables in Excel to summarize and analyze large amounts of raw online advertising data.
SourceForge’s media and e-commerce web sites connect millions of influential technology professionals and enthusiasts each day. Combining user-developed content, online marketplaces and e-commerce, SourceForge is the global technology community’s nexus for information exchange, goods for geeks, and open source software distribution and services. The network of web sites enables advertisers to efficiently reach a large, highly qualified audience of buyers. SourceForge’s network serves more than 33 million unique visitors each month from around the world. It includes top web sites like SourceForge.net, the world’s largest open source software development and distribution environment; Slashdot, the web destination that pioneered community generated content; and ThinkGeek, the online bazaar that features cool stuff for tech enthusiasts. Other sites in the network include Linux.com and freshmeat.net. SourceForge’s unique combination of user-developed content, clever e-commerce and online marketplaces make it the most trusted, credible venue for dialogue and exchange with the global technology community.
As our Mountain View, California-based Product Development Specialist in Ad Operations, your first mission exploits your advanced skills in Excel. Collaborating with Marketing, for whom you're a technical resource, you'll create pivot tables to massage raw data about ad view impressions, ad clicks and campaign performance. Your role isn't limited to just grinding out reports. We'll hone your analysis skills until you become a true partner with Marketing when it comes to making decisions from success metrics like ad size, site and page targeting data. With time, you'll become expert at drawing out information from Sales and Marketing during the product development process so you know what you have to track, and on what data it's important to get metrics. Besides analytical prowess, the successful candidate is grounded enough in HTML and JavaScript that they can look at existing code, interpret it and make suggestions about improving it. Flash, too, is key as we're building Flash creative to run in our DoubleClick DFP ad server. Experience with DoubleClick's DART Motif or other rich media tools would allow you to build these Flash creative elements and ensure they're tracking correctly in our ad server. As we said up front, this is not a cookie cutter, textbook position. But someone who wants to embrace the fluidity of a start-up environment in which they can develop this role and further define it within the company, will be given the flexibility to do just that and launch the next phase of their online advertising career.
