Job Summery:

To implement, document, and support ongoing new product releases, system upgrades, and infrastructure enhancements in the Production environments as well as day to day tasks supporting j2’s UNIX/Linux based infrastructure.

 

 

Job Duties:

Technical Responsibilities:

 

·  Administer, monitor and troubleshoot 400+ UNIX systems in a multi-platform environment

·  Administer, monitor, and troubleshoot Oracle database 9i and 10g

·  Create rpm installs for clients and databases

·  Coordinate maintenance, replacement and repair of servers and storage systems

·  Provide escalated support of all j2 UNIX/Linux servers and disk storage systems

·  Manage, configure, and maintain all Unix Database servers and disk storage systems

·  Configure, maintain and support UNIX/Linux mail servers running Sendmail/Postfix MTAs

·  Provide system support for Oracle databases and BEA Weblogic

·  Maintain public and private DNS systems

·  Evaluate new hardware/software and services, research new technologies, and present recommendations and justifications on hardware and software purchases

·  Manage system capacity and performance, verify application logs and monitor activity on all servers

·  Set policies for secure operation of all servers and services

·  Manage and participate in 24x7 support and on-call rotation

 

Other Responsibilities:

 

·  Develop standards (e.g. naming conventions, system configuration, methods and practices, etc.) for UNIX/Linux servers and disk storage systems.

·  Prepare SLAs, policies, escalation and maintenance procedures for the UNIX/Linux servers and disk storage systems.

·  Prepare project documentation, status reporting, policies, procedures and reports assigned by management.

·  Participate in change control and production control processes.

·  Provide customer service to internal and external customers. 

·  Communicate information through effective written and oral communication and presentations.

·  Promote teamwork within the team and foster cooperation with other groups and departments.

·  Demonstrate initiative and dedication as well as an ability to work independently once general direction is given.

·  Other tasks as assigned by management. 

 

 

Job Requirements and Experience:

·  5+ years hands-on system administration experience in UNIX environment (Linux and Solaris preferred).

·  5+ years of combined experience in any of following technologies: HTTP/HTTPS, NDMP, SMTP, SSL, DNS, LDAP, Sendmail/Postfix, Apache/Tomcat/Weblogic, Perl/shell scripting.

·  3+ years troubleshooting or customer service skills with hardware and software.

·  3+ year of administration of Oracle databases.

·  2+ years of administration experience on Network Appliance filers in NAS and SAN configurations.

·  2+ years experience on Sun Solaris mid-range servers (4800, 6900) required.

·  Experience with any of the following is a plus: Disaster Recovery, HPOV, J2EE/Java, Networking.

·  Bachelors Degree and Technical Certifications (UNIX, Solaris) are a strong plus.

·  Multi-tasking, self-motivated and project-oriented.  Must be able to work individually, within a team, and with other groups.

·  Excellent communication skills are required.  Candidate must supply writing samples related to previous job experience, redacted to protect proprietary information of previous employers.

·  Must be able to lift 50 lbs. overhead.

·  Must be willing to perform light travel.
