Tech Yahoo, Software Apps Dev Eng, Sr
The Internet is a big, busy place, and we at Yahoo! are proud to stand out in the crowd. As the world's number one Internet brand, servicing over a half billion people, we're determined to maintain our commitment to delivering news, entertainment, information and fun... each and every day. In order to maintain our position as one of the world's most trafficked Internet destinations, we're always on the lookout for people with big ideas and big talent to help us provide our visitors with the innovative products and services they've come to expect from Yahoo!. We're looking for people like you. How Big Can You Think? Yahoo! Local is looking for a pro-active, out-of-box thinker to join our Local engineering team as a senior level engineer. You will be working on building an industry leading local search engine that helps millions of users everyday by delivering them the most relevant results for their local-centric queries. You should be someone who can delve below the surface and help analyze and define a problem rather than passively wait for others to do so. A desire to understand the big picture even when concentrating on a specific role or task is expected. We'll need you to make mature and measured decisions when trading off schedule risk vs. engineering elegance, while always maintaining a commitment to robust software engineering rather than simply hacking. Sound appealing? You should also have following qualifications: - Deep knowledge of Unix system and large scale application performance tuning. - Industry experience working with a foundational OOP language such as C++/Java, and a front-end oriented language like PHP. - Experiences with statistical analysis, machine learning and/or data mining would be a big plus. - Good command of scripting language such as Perl. - Previous experience with search engine is highly desirable. In particular vertical domain search dealing with structured data as well as free text content. Any experience in relevancy measurement and tuning would be desirable. Yahoo! Inc. is an equal opportunity employer. For more information or to search all of our openings, please visit http://careers.yahoo.com
