SUMMARY:

 

This position is responsible for specification, design, development, testing, validation, configuration and deployment of technologies and equipment used in WildBlue’s Access network. The position also has responsibility for supporting the WildBlue operations team with troubleshooting of performance and functional issues with WildBlue’s Access network.

 

 

 

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

 Interface with WildBlue engineering and operations teams as well as internal/external vendors to evaluate, select and integrate the equipment and technologies required to offer the various Satellite Broadband services to subscribersWork with other team members on the specification, design and/or  implementation of new features/equipment/software to both augment the capabilities and capacity of current generation Access Network, as well as the ones that will be needed to power future generation of Access NetworkWork with other team members on the specification, design and implementation of various performance, functionality, scalability and stability test plans that would be performed by WildBlue to qualify Access Network equipment in its laboratory prior to field deploymentWork with WildBlue Operations team on planning of field trials and production rollout of qualified technologies, features and equipment. Monitor and analyze the various applicable metrics during field-trials to help make go/no-go decisions with the production rolloutAnalyze test results and issues in the field, identify root cause of issues with the Access network hardware and software; file and track defects with vendors; provide vendors with supporting information to troubleshoot and fix issues; facilitate the testing of patches and fixes and work with operations to plan the field-trial and rollout to the production networkWork with other engineering team members in defining new system architectures and participate in integration of Access Network equipment with other networking equipment and back-office processesAssist the Technical Operations organization in troubleshooting and resolving  problems with operational systems on a 24x7 basisReview and  refine operational support and maintenance processes and documentation pertaining to the Access network and produced by WildBlue Operations organizationResearch, inform, and recommend opportunities to apply appropriate technology solutions to support business needsPerform other duties that may be assigned by the management

 

 

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.Must have in-depth knowledge of DOCSIS-based Cable Access Networks, including the device and service provisioning flowMust have good understanding of Layer 1 – Layer 4 protocols Must have strong hands on troubleshooting skills; must be able to demonstrate knowledge of troubleshooting DOCSIS and IP networksExperience and working knowledge in major network protocols and architectures, routers, firewalls and switches, VPNs and system load balancing is highly desirableFamiliarity with ISP/MSO infrastructure, especially satellite ground stations and/or cable head-ends, is highly desirablePrior experience in architecting, specification and design of complex systems is highly desirableMust have prior experience developing test automation scripts in Perl/Python/Tcl/Shell on UNIX-like platforms. Any embedded systems specification, design and development experience is a plus Must be familiar with laboratory work in support of system implementation and testing, including data communications theory, network troubleshooting procedures, spectrum analyzers, packet generators and analyzersMust be a strong self-starter and fast learner and should be able to operate with little or no supervisionMust possess good written and verbal communication skillsMust be a strong team player and work effectively within and across teams as well as external vendorsMust be able to operate in a fast-paced environment and to deal with stress appropriatelySome travel will be requiredUS Citizenship or Permanent Residency (Green Card) required

 

 

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

 Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Computer engineering is a must. A Master’s degree is a plus

· Must have at least 6 years of relevant experience, preferably in a service provider environment

· Experience supporting technical systems at a Tier IV – Tier V level

· Experience working in an RF/digital laboratory or operational environment; general familiarity with good laboratory/operations practices regarding equipment organization, layout, cabling, grounding, safety, etc.
