Sr. Network Engineer

This position is responsible for the design, deployment and support of all production and corporate network infrastructure and services.  This position manages all domestic transit circuits (OC-48s, Frame, MPLS etc), connectivity for our 3 datacenters in the Bay Area, our domestic high-bandwidth manufacturing sites and global customer service and engineering sites.  This position is part of a team of fun, smart and energetic network engineers.  You burn with the righteous fire to build indestructible infrastructure and can inspire passion within the team.  You design infrastructure intelligently, with a mind towards the proper blend of scalability, supportability and cost effectiveness.

 

Responsibilities:

You’ll drive decision-making and execution for major infrastructure projects, such as designing transit architecture for new domestic and international points of presence.  You can design and implement global load balancing solutions and disaster recovery architectures that work effectively.  You have experience designing and deploying proper network monitoring and management infrastructure, and can build these tools from the ground up.  Network monitoring/management is a must!  How else will you know what your network does when you sleep (soundly) at night?

 

You will drive consistency and define and implement best practices, with the support of your peers.  The network engineering department is the backbone for all operations—both internal and external, and as such, your approach is service oriented, setting realistic expectations for multifaceted projects, collaborating with others in the organization to accomplish large and far reaching deployments and implementations.  Willing to work varied schedules, including shared on-call responsibilities.

 

Key Skills and Experience:

 

* In depth knowledge of enterprise routing and switching, specifically Cisco IOS 12.2 experience on the 65xx platform

* Comprehensive understanding of TCP/IP fundamentals and theory, including application load balancing, F5 LB experience a plus

* Ability to establish and maintain external peering via BGP, traffic shaping and route redistribution

BGP, EIGRP, VRRP, VRRP, STP, HSRP and OSPF routing experience

* Strong knowledge of non-stop network environments, including hitless upgrades, failover (at both layer 2 and layer 3)

* Familiar with use and configuration of Cisco FWSM and VPN concentrators

* Proven ability to troubleshoot and solve problems quickly and efficiently

* Work with external parties (SAS70; PCI) to conduct audits and develop plans for addressing audit recommendations

* Develop network designs to ensure compliance with security best practices

* Experience managing intrusion detection/prevention systems a plus

* Ability to perform holistic network audits to identify opportunities for improvement, evaluate and recommend a specific solution, and then implement them in a timely fashion

* Reasonable Unix administration knowledge – should be proficient developing and supporting a Unix environment

* Demonstrated ability to build robust monitoring, alerting, trending and traffic flow analysis platforms

* Ability to leverage open source platforms where it makes sense

* Perl development experience a plus

* In depth understanding of how routers and switches actually work and how to manipulate them to your will

* Able to contribute to the antics, shenanigans and the occasional rubber band war or ping pong challenge

* Must be willing to work varied schedules, including shared on-call responsibilities
