Senior Database SQL Engineer

Position Description:

Fox Interactive Media (FIM), a start-up division of News Corporation, is seeking a Database SQL Engineer for the FIM Audience Network group. The FIM Audience Network group is comprised of FIM’s ad technology, ad operations, and performance sales groups focused on monetizing social media. The technology group will be charged with providing top-tier solutions to optimize monetization across FIM’s content network and those of other third-party publishers. Projects include leveraging optimization technologies to provide relevant ads, aggregating data into one of the world’s largest data warehouse systems to power BI tools, and building consumer-facing tools to enable social interaction and ads. The Sr. Database SQL Engineer will join the Business Intelligence Initiative team in supporting needs for Fox Interactive Media’s business intelligence and data management systems. This person is responsible for designing, developing, implementing, and maintaining one of the largest data warehouse environments in the world.Responsibilities include:- Warehouse Design – Work with the Operations team and the reporting business analysts to implement a solid, extensible warehouse design that supports the new analytics requirements- Warehouse ETLo Analyze, mine, map, transform and transfer data between a variety of data sourceso Build and maintain SQL, PLSQL and UNIX scripts to facilitate data population and transformation with data loaded from production databases into the data warehouse. Perform all necessary data transformations to populate data into a warehouse table structure that is optimized for reporting.- Respond quickly and effectively to production issues and taking responsibility for seeing those issues through resolution.- Manage security of database structures and corporate data held within databases.- Assist in the definition and implementation of database standards. - Monitor databases for errors and perform problem determination when necessary.Required Skills and Experience:- 7+ years software industry experience.- 5+ years of database development experience on different database platforms, including Postgres, Oracle, SQL Server, Teradata, etc.- Experience with performance tuning of SQL queries. Experience writing complex queries. - Model the creation of databases and tables. Develop SQL queries and the extract and load processes to move data from source systems into reporting systems. Analyze the data for completeness and accuracy.- Prior experience writing PL/SQL triggers and/or procedures.- Ability to work with minimal direction, yet also able to work in team environment.- Working knowledge of UNIX, LINUX, and shell scripts.- Experience working with very large partitioned tables is required.- Experience with data warehouse concepts: dimensional modeling, star schemas, data vaulting, enterprise data warehouse and data marts.- Highly skilled in moving high volume of data in/out of data warehouse environments a plus.- Experience with high volume websites that use multi-tier architectures a significant plus.
