Senior Business Systems Analyst, Content

As a member of the Netflix business intelligence team, the Senior Business Systems Analyst will combine good overall business knowledge and technical skills with keen analytical skills to produce results. Your deep knowledge of quantitative analytics will enable you to provide meaningful insight and inform key business decisions in support of Netflix’s DVD purchasing team (Content).

Communication and Analytical skills are fundamental requirements for success. Use of Business Intelligence or Query tools is also highly important. Preferred tools include hands-on SQL skills, Ab Initio, Brio, Microstrategy, Cognos, SAS, Oracle, and Teradata.

THE ROLE

You will support one or more teams within our Content team and be responsible for providing any or all of the following functions:

Be a quantitative leader in the Content organization, helping to inform new metrics which drive the business forward in ways that are consistent with Netflix’s key strategies.
Detailed analyses of customers, DVD viewing, breakage, forecasting demand and contract performance, using a wide range of data sources and analytic tools.
Developing an understanding of key customer segments, demographics, and channels.
Support of Content and Operations initiatives through analytic projects.
Support of Finance and forecasting groups through analytic projects.
Mining data and providing strategic insights to the organization.
Identifying opportunities to use data to develop buying strategies and improve business performance.
Providing technical and analytical advice to buyers negotiating contracts with studios.
Recognizing and managing technical dependencies and/or limitations that impact analytic work.


Successful execution of these tasks includes the following activities:

Delivering clear written and oral communication with analyst teams, IT, and internal customer teams.
Actively question and challenge customers to understand their requirements and reach optimal requirements.
Documenting communication of projects and time allocations.
Successfully implementing process improvements impacting own work and work of others.
Negotiate customer priorities and workload with many internal customers and team members.
Interact with cross-functional teams to deliver projects within committed time frames.


QUALIFICATIONS

The successful candidate will have a minimum of 5 years experience working as business analyst in a data-driven environment and ideally will also have significant experience in designing and executing quantitative research, ideally in a consumer-facing business. Hands-on experience using SQL and one or more of the above listed business intelligence tools is very important.

Preferred Qualifications

Track record of uncovering consumer behaviors and motivations that result in breakthrough business insights
Experience doing analysis of operational processes, identifying inefficiencies, and recommending process improvements
Ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical associates a must
Solid communication skills at all levels within an organization
Excellent project management skills; ability to multi-task
Strong quantitative, analytic skills
Energy, enthusiasm, and detail orientation to manage and/or produce high-quality, data analysis deliverables
Responsive, team-oriented personal style for effectiveness with internal clients and colleagues
Excellent SQL skills required; extensive interaction with computer based analytical tools supporting data analysis (SAS, etc).
BA required
MBA or Masters in Operations, Statistics or Analytic discipline helpful.
