PHP/JAVA DEVELOPERS

Expanding eCommerce company in Manhattan Beach, CA has exciting full time opportunities available for experienced PHP developers with Java skills.

Our client is not looking for the self-taught PHP developer. Project cycle is very fast paced and typical projects are only 1 week in duration. Developer will work on projects independantly with direction from leads. Projects often have impact on other projects so there is a high level of team work and collaboration. Environment has a very structured process to the project life cycle. There is a project kickoff meeting where the requirements are defined so that if there is something that comes out of scope it is not the fault of the developer, but of the requirements document. Next, there is a design meeting where a basic design is laid out. There is also a midway meeting for status and issue resolution. Once the project is ready to build there is a post mortum meeting. Documentation is very important for this role. Must be able to document their own work. Projects involve search engine marketing and optimization and comparisions. Candidate should have several years experience working in a team and must be able to respect the current framework of code. Do not want someone that is going to want to reinvent what they already have in place.

First step will be an phone screen to assess technical skills and documentation experience. Next step will be a F2F interview with Managing Director and Leads to determine team fit. Last step will be to meet other team members so that everyone has a very good understanding as to what it will be like to work for the company.

Required Technical Skills:

- Advanced proficiency in PHP 5, JavaScript, CSS, HTML, XML.
- Experience using MySQL or other database systems and solid SQL skills.
- Expert-level proficiency with data structures and program flow control.
- Expert-level proficiency in object-oriented design and concepts
- Thorough understanding of framework concepts such as MVC and ORM (Object Relational Mapping)
- Experience working in a Linux environment including the command line, and shell scripting.
- Experience using Subversion or other version control system such as CVS, Git, or Bazaar.
- Familiarity with rapid development frameworks such as CakePHP (Modeled after Ruby on Rails)
- Experience with bug tracking systems such as Bugzilla, Mantis or Trac.
- Knowledge of standard programming practices ex: Java Coding Standards

Other Requirements:
- Experience working in a highly collaborative team environment
- Ability to play an active part in the evolution of the development environment by contributing solid ideas and design solutions
- Experience developing under a standard development process and using standard coding practices
- Ability to easily communicate ideas and concepts to other team members
- Familiarity with documentation systems such as Twiki, or MediaWiki (Don't have to have these particular tools, but need to have experience documenting their own work)

Pluses:
- Experience with cross browser web programming and tools such as Firebug and WebDeveloper
- JavaScript experience with AJAX, JSON and libraries such as YUI (Yahoo UI Library), Prototype, or jQuery.
- Proficiency in Java and J2EE.
- Experience with Spring (Open source development framework), JUnit (unit testing framework), Ant (automates SW builds), Hibernate (ORM), iBatis (ORM).
- Experience with SOAP based web services.
