NOC Engineer - 3rd Shift

Cogent is a Tier One ISP focused on delivering a focused set of Internet access products ranging from 500 Kbps to 1,000 Mbps to businesses in the multi-tenant marketplace in more than 30 markets across the United States, Canada and several countries in Europe. Cogent’s facilities-based all-optical end-to-end IP network enables 100 Mbps connectivity, a rate that is about 100 times faster than observed T1 capacity (or 65 times faster than the published rate of 1.544 Mbps).

Cogent is recruiting for the following position:

NOC Engineer – 3rd Shift

Responsibilities:

Monitoring and maintaining the Cogent DWDM/SONET network elements and IP networks through the use management tools, in order to ensure that it is operated in accordance with the standard NOC procedures.

Determine the cause of network issues and troubleshoot using industry standard methods. Initiate corrective action through provided tools. Resolve problems through escalation when appropriate. Participate in administrative duties.

Interface with customers and vendors as required, to maintain high network availability.

Qualifications:

2 or more years working in a NOC or ISP. Strong IP technical background, excellent oral & customer service communication skills and an ability to work in a team environment. Thorough understanding and experience with WAN protocols and circuits.

Required Skills:

IP Networking knowledge including networking protocols (BGP, IGP, OSPF, IS-IS,

MPLS…), IP addressing, DNS and IP-VPN’s is required.

Experience troubleshooting Frame Relay, SONET & OCx.

Cisco hardware troubleshooting experience. CCNA preferred

One or more years experience with Remedy, Netcool, or other network/hardware.

Monitoring software & ticketing system.

Two years experience minimum on the management of Telecom Networks based on

DWDM/SONET and IP.

 

Technical vocation, good team worker and capacity to work under pressure.
